Re: Bob Dylan

As much as I respect Dylan's writing, I'm not that much of a fan of his solo.. But, look what happens when he has a great team of writers, singers and musicians with him:D

The Traveling Wilburys,in my eyes the greatest supergroup ever formed,i love them.
A lot of very talented songwriters and musicians indeed,Dylan was the main songwriter. It's a great pity they've also lost there best singers, Roy Orbison and George Harrison.

Re: Bob Dylan

My favorite thing that Bob ever did. Was in the movie "No Direction Home". Dude's just so fed up with paparazzi and picture takers that he whips out a camera himself and starts to take pictures of THEM. The reporters scatter and he just keeps clicking.

Big Dylan fan. Glad I found this thread.

Huge influence on my song writing. Along with Kristian Matsson, Cobain, Richard Thompson, Neil Young, Phil Anselmo, Mark Lanegan, and some country and blues musicians Bob Dylan truly had an impact on me.

Re: Bob Dylan

I guess I should post here too - been on a combined Dylan/Band binge the past few weeks :D

Groovy, I like your picks for albums - I can tell you don't 'just like the usual stuff'. I've got a few odd faves too I guess. Mainly Street Legal and Empire Burlesque. And Budokan which at least used to be quite controversial but now it seems people are more ok with it :heheh:

I don't think I could do a list as such - but it's at least quite obvious that I'm very fond of his The Band-collaborations :cheers2 I'd put those in their own category kinda like Neil w/the Horse.

I really like Freewheelin' and Another side of Dylan. Then all the obvious mid-to-late-60's ones and onwards... I don't really think there's a Dylan-album I think really sucks. Imo, he always brings something to the table.

Re: Bob Dylan

2010 marks a very controversial and historic anniversary for Bob Dylan. It was 45 years ago that Dylan went electric. His first concert where he perfomed live playing electric guitar was Sunday July 25, 1965. He got "boo'd". Who would have thought in 1965, that this would also be some of Dylans best works........

Re: Bob Dylan

^^Not a huge Dylan fan, but I do respect him a lot especially when he did go electric despite the despair and sense of betrayal his hard core fans expressed by booing him. If nothing else Bob Dylan is living proof of the classic Sinatra song "I Did It My Way".:grinthumb

Re: Bob Dylan

Favorite albums:

1. Blood on the Tracks - An uncharactersitically personal album for him, which is why I like it. Dylan typically wrote more about what was going on in the world, and during his "prime" years his lyrics became quite surrealistic as well. This album came out a few years later and it draws more from the personal experiences of an adult who has felt real emotions versus the optimism of a kid who still wants to change the world.

2. The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan - This was Dylan's breakthrough, and it was a game-changer, dissecting subjects like war and race. When you listen to it, try to put it in the context of 1963, when The Beatles were still singing about holding hands and doing the twist. Dylan also didn't seem to take himself too seriously at this point, which is refreshing. This is the best example of his folksy acoustic sound that casual fans are most familiar with.

3. Highway 61 Revisited - This album exudes cool. The look Dylan has on his face on the cover is exactly how the songs come across. Objectively, this is some of Dylan's best songwriting as well. The lyrics are amazingly complex. Probably the best example of his "plugged-in" sound, made famous on his tours with The Band.
