Speaking of Witchcraft, I picked thier s/t debut a few weeks ago.

Another retro doom-stoner band from Sweden, again heavily influenced by Black Sabbath and Pentagram with elements of Budgie, Hendrix, Leaf Hound and even Jethro Tull. Personally I like thier s/t debut from 2004 which was recorded in a "basement" which gives the sound that early '70's ambience of proto-metal/heavy psych. Two more albums followed, Firewood(2005), and The Alchemist(2007).

GHOST : This band hails from Scandinavia the mighty land of the once fierce sea raiding Norsemen,Sweden to be more precise. Their music is full of very satanic lyrical themes so if that is a problem for you you might want to head for cover and by past this post right now. If not then you are in for a treat if you are into well crafted melodic proto metal inspired modern hard rock/ metal. These guys remind me of both Blue Oyster Cult and the mighty Mercyful Fate ( without the high end vocal antics of KD that is ). Really good release from this brand new band.If you love the heavy dark side of 70's hard rock ( Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Pentagram etc. ) this band is definitely for you.

2010 Opus Eponymous

I agree ,Joe. Awesome band. Here's one I post in another thread but they belong here too so....

BLOOD CEREMONY : Hailing from Canada ,this is another band that I really enjoy that is female fronted. Sort of a retro 70's psychedelic experience who draw their influences from bands such as Tull and Coven with a bit of a doomy vibe via the mighty Black Sabbath .They are far from just being a clone of their influences however as they take their inspirations and mold them into something all their own. Alia O'Brien's eerie vocals front this mix of Psychedelic Rock, Stoner Metal, and Heavy Psych as well as providing flute and organ to the interesting soundscape.

Glad to see that someone appreciates the fact that there is a lot of great original music being released in the modern era that is steeped in the old school.

:cheers2

And yeah Blood Ceremony is awesome bro :grinthumb I can't wait to finally get a second effort from them ( hopefully sooner then later )
