soot: old hippies always have someone to blame for forcing stuff on them.. it was part of the whole culture/mentality. But I could be wrong, perhaps someone is waterboarding them with good music and it simply just drives them nuts. *shrug*

Hair Band is a moronic term to begin with. Anyone I know who was a fan of that type of music never used that term. Bands falling under that category were just metal/hard rock to us. I guess a good term for the 80's bands would be "melodic metal."

Van Halen is hard rock/metal.

I agree with you. It seems like "genre labels" are made up and attached to bands retro-actively many years later. The "labels" really cause a stir some times. Want a label that cause a sh**storm? How about "prog?" :bonk: ..LOL

Today Van Halen isn't considered heavy metal (same with AC/DC). They influenced the scene, the sound, the fashion but they were just raw, furious, guitar-driven ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!! :jj::jj:

Well if I see an old hippie I'll be sure to send him your way. Who knows, he might even be into your kind of watersports.

Well there's no disputing the "raw, furious, guitar-driven" part. Whether they were any good though is another question entirely.

I really think VH kicked hard rock and metal in the ass.

They have that effect on me too. I always want to give whoever's responsible a good ass-kicking as soon as I hear them launch into the opening notes of "You Really Got Me", "Oh, Pretty Woman", "Jump", etc.

"Melodic metal" you say? Well it does have a certain ring to it....

I'm willing to take your word for it anyway the next time I do a poll.

At least people don't have a problem coming up with a top 5 favorite list for Van Halen... if they don't it's only because they have a tough time narrowing it down to ONLY 5. Unlike certain 'garage bands' that people consider to be one-hit wonders.

Don't like van halen, we get that hep...

I guess it depends on how you define "good." :heheh:

I think Eddie Van Halen R-E-V-O-L-U-T-I-O-N-I-Z-E-D rock guitar in the late 70s. AC/DC and VH kept ROCK honest when a lot of other bands were wearing skinny ties and Ray-Bans. :D
