Yeah I agree but it's still fun to talk about this stuff,,,I feel the same way about my electronics that some feel about Car stuff,,,which doesn't interest me at all.

I was just picking on Hep to stop posting Showroom/Magazine photos and give us the real goods...:D

The older Bose stuff was decent, I had a problem with the inventor though, he made some wildly erroneous claims about his equipment back in the 70's. The newer Bose,,,honestly it is way overpriced for what you get, Hep will weigh in on this one when he gets here I'm sure.

I've admittedly not auditioned any Bose speakers. But whenever the subject of Bose comes up on any audiophile forum I visit, the responses are hilarious:

My Nissan Maxima has a Bose system. It has one terrific sounding setting......OFF.

Based on the volume of car sales world wide, these things are punched out like cookies and they figure that road noise will cancel the short comings.

Lots of Miata owners perform a 'bosectomy' to eliminate all of the Factory Bose components ...they're that bad.

Remember when you first heard a Bose 901 system and you thought it was pretty good? For a lot of us geezers, that was our introduction to "high end" audio. It seemed like everyone was aware of this odd looking speaker that would transform the listener to audio heaven. Heck, even people who were mildly interested in audio thought that this was the ultimate. Of course we wised up after reading all the journals that would routinely bash this legend. We knew better now! We became audio snobs and turned our noses down at this speaker.

Heavy advertising has kept the Bose name alive and well; so much in fact that when I mention to someone that I have been interested in audio for years, their first response is "have you got a Bose?" When I say no, they seem to lose interest. There was a guy in my small town who had a Bose speaker system (601 I think) with Sony amps and CD player that was the envy of everyone. In fact, he was commissioned by more than a few people to set up similar systems in their own homes. These systems invariably had the speakers mounted in the corners of rooms where they met the ceiling. Sound? EXECRABLE ! But, for those who haven't heard better (hard to imagine) or don't care (even harder to imagine!), this is as good as it gets.

Bose draws the sneers for a combination of these reasons:

1. Bose spends more advertising its speakers than ALL other speaker manufacturers combined.

2. Bose pays a commission to store salesmen over and above what the store itself pays! Salesmen therefore have an extra incentive to push Bose.

3. Shoddy component parts. Dismantle a Bose speaker and it's filled with cheap off the shelf parts.

4. Bose top end speakers are designed to fill the room with sound - by bouncing the sound waves all over the room! This plays hell with resolution/detail, and it's detail that audiophiles most value!
