Yeah they are permanently damaged Sweaty, I can't do live concerts anymore, even movies are too loud nowadays, so I just watch DVD's and play my music at modest levels now.
You can get your wax flushed easily enough, put a drop of olive oil in each ear for about a week or ten days, then go see the doctor or buy a little kit and do it yourself, works like a charm.

Thanks for that have had them done before but it's finding time to do it, sorry to hear about the ears man must be a nightmare.
Took me about two years to get used to it, but what else can you do? You only get one set of ears and all the internal parts wear out naturally without loud noise like my profession, so I just put up with it. Now they force people to use hearing protection, but there were no regulations when I was younger.

I just love my stereo like it's my best friend.. The hours of enjoyment it brings..
LG.. I think you remember the incident about my fridge.. Turns out the repair guy is a electronics wizard.. He rebuilt my Bose speakers for me and I'm buying a MMK sub woofer from him..
From now on he's the best call for giving me advice on just how to set up the perfect sound system.. But he checked out what I have now and he said it does the job..

Well...this is Hepcat's Technical thread Thumper so no wonder it's filled with our techie chat.
MMK make good equipment, not a big Bose fan though, unless it's the 901 series they would be good with a proper sub-woofer.
The Bose I have were bought back in 1988 (401 reflection series).. So he rebuilt the crossover and tweeters.
He said the Sub woofer would give the sound more low end since the way these speakers were set up to handle mainly mid level clarity.
Looking over the reviews on them they had a high rating of 4 1/2 out of 5 stars with 47 reviews..
The older Bose stuff was decent, I had a problem with the inventor though, he made some wildly erroneous claims about his equipment back in the 70's. The newer Bose,,,honestly it is way overpriced for what you get, Hep will weigh in on this one when he gets here I'm sure. A friend of mine had a pair of 401's, they were good little speakers from what I remember.

They have been worth the money spent.. I've blown up quite a few pairs of speakers..
These at least have lasted through many years of loud parties and lot's of play time..
And they are the only Bose I have had..
but really.. Like them or not you want to get quality sound for the money..
I've seen them being used a few times in music stores..
The guy who repaired them did bring up a couple of design flaws.. But the problems were easily fixed..

I spend quite a bit of time perusing the vintage electronics boards online, and one thing is certain, the great quality equipment from the 70's and 80's is still highly respected and has retained some of it's value which is amazing.
I have seen kits offered with complete surrounds for all nine drivers in the old 901 series speakers, they seem to be the fave among Bose fanatics and always sell quickly when they pop up. I have played around with 901's myself a good friend had a pair, but they were always lacking the bottom end and the soaring highs, at least to me. Add a subwoofer and you solve part of the problem.
