Here are some cover songs that have, generally, received much praise.

The second poll I present today asks which one of these is the best.

The list:

Twist And Shout (Originally by The Top Notes, covered by The Beatles)

Respect (originally by Otis Redding, covered by Aretha Franklin)

All Along The Watchtower (originally by Bob Dylan, covered by Jimi Hendrix)

You Shook Me (originally by Muddy Waters, covered by Led Zeppelin)

Crossroads (originally by Robert Johnson, covered by Cream)

Hurt (originally by Nine Inch Nails, covered by Johnny Cash)

Hound Dog (originally by Big Momma Thorton, covered by Elvis Presley)

I Shot The Sheriff (originally by Bob Marley, covered by Eric Clapton)

Hurt gets my vote. Although they're all great cover tunes, Cash's version of Hurt is haunting & he really put his mark on that song IMO.

I agree, Cash did turn a sub-standard hard rock song (IMO) and turn it into a hauntingly epic song.

On the list my fave is Twist and Shout. Pure, vintage rock n rull fury! <3
