I was keen to give this a go so I just put my iPod on shuffle and saw what the first ten tracks to come up were, without listening to them:

1. Jail Bait - Wishbone Ash (1971)
2. Six Blade Knife (Live) - Dire Straits (1978)
3. Money [Live] - Pink Floyd (1974)
4. I Shall Be Free - Bob Dylan (1963)
5. F*!#In' Up - Neil Young & Crazy Horse (1990)
6. Learn To Be Still - Eagles (1994)
7. Sucker Row - Mark Knopfler (2004)
8. One Of These Days - Pink Floyd (1971)
9. Simple Twist Of Fate - Bob Dylan (1975)
10. Sultans Of Swing (Live) - Dire Straits (1978)

The live versions of Six Blade Knife and Sultans Of Swing are from Live At The BBC, while this version of Money is from the Empire Pool at Wembley in 1974 (from the second disc of the Experience edition of DSOTM).

I would have been very happy to listen to this set of songs, I like all of them - and as a bonus the three live songs are all among my favourites on the original albums, while One Of These Days and Simple Twist Of Fate are among my very favourite Floyd and Dylan songs.

The results surprised me somewhat as I have long suspected that when placed on shuffle my iPod tends to favour putting the songs and artists I play less first, whereas actually this time eight of the songs came from five artists which are high up my list of favourites and in the top seven most represented artists on my iPod in terms of the number of songs I have (for the record, the other two are Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac) while Mark Knopfler and Wishbone Ash are also fairly well represented and I play music from both regularly.
