I owned an S.G. and wouldn't say that there's any Gibson or other Guitar that's better. Just ask Tony Iommi, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page & multiple others. They're all well known for playing S.G.s throughout their career, especially Tony Iommi. I don't think that he's ever played another Guitar since he's been in Black Sabbath. Not to say that that's the only Guitar that I'd wanna own. Obviously I'd love a few other Gibsons, a 24 fret Jackson & a 22 fret Double Humbucker Fender Tele. I'm mainly a Drummer though. That's why I traded in my S.G. & several amps including an awesome Half-Stack. I love sticking with Drums, but I'll never forget how great that S.G. sounded. There's nothing better for a Guitarist if you ever get the chance to pick (even a used) one up.:cheers2

He recorded on Washburn once :)

For me, the best guitar is PRS. I own CE24 for now... I also have Fender Stratocaster Roadhouse deluxe and an Epiphone SG-400 with gibson pickups :)

I see that here is a lot of Gibson lovers... Gibson are very good sounding guitar, but when we start talking about quality, than is gibson on the bottom... Specialy for this price.

I went to Guitar Center twice in the last week. I am thoroughly unimpressed with their electric guitar selection now. Most of the Fenders are the cheap-ass 'starter' Fenders. Of course, they have 1 Clapton-used and signed model that was like $20,000. Other than that, they have what seems like about 3000 Gibsons and MAYBE 15 guitars from 2 or 3 other name brand names.

They used to have BC Rich, Charvel, Jackson, Ibanez, ESP, LTD, and a few others I am forgetting, along with the usual Fender and Gibson guitars. Ugh, it just made me sad.

A couple of years ago Best Buy in Glen Burnie Md had a pretty cool guitar selection. I had my eye on a natural finish Martin acoustic that played like an electric and had a sweet tone (for a new guitar) but well, my kids have to eat every single day. They are quite insistent about this...

Speaking of acoustics, I really dig Gianinnis. One day I shall own another one to replace the guitar I had that went bad from the body warping so the action was incredibly high.

Also, Gibsons are great. It is true most newer models don't compare to those we grew up with but they are superb sounding, playing and even looking axes.

it'd been a while since I played a Les Paul, so I grabbed a couple different models and I still just do not like the feel of them, and I've been very vocal over the years of how much I despise that pickguard. To me, that pickguard just oozes of cheapness. The models without them do look cool (even though I still don't like the feel of them), but aesthetically I do appreciate the pickguard-less models.

To me, that pickguard stands out as cheap looking because of how it sticks out off of the body. Pretty much every other guitar on earth that has a pickguard has one that is flush with the body. Obviously this is easier to do with a flat body vs the contoured body that the Les Paul models have... anyway, that's why I think it looks cheap. Honestly, I don't like the pickguards on ANY of the Gibson models. They look goofy on the SG's as well.

*shrug* Just my $.02-worth of useless opinion.

I don't know, maybe it' because I'm so used to the design and adore they way they play and feel but I think the triangle sets off the curvy shape to make it look pretty cool.

I prefer the feel of Exporers and SGs but The Paul has a tone you just can't beat.

I love the way Ovations play (an acoustic that handles like an electric is very cool) but that high end twang they have has always put me off. There are a few with wooden sound chambers but I have never played one.

also have a Schecter Signature PT and I have to say it is very comfortable and versatile. I will always like it.
