While I'm doing My 2013 Thread I figured I'd have a thread for fresh material that I'm excited for or listening to this year. The ball is already rolling as I have bands that are highly ranked by me releasing albums this very month as well as artists that have a release date in the coming year! This may or may not turn into anything formal as far as reviews but it will be my thread for talk about what's new on my music horizon! Feel free to use this thread for your own buzz about what's fresh this year as well! :)

Listened to Springsteen's High Hopes a couple of times on Grooveshark. Kind of underwhelmed so far aside from the first 3 songs, which I like. But I was never a huge fan of the Boss.

I love Grooveshark by the way which answers your streaming comment in the other thread I believe. :D It's great for albums Spotify, which I love more, doesn't have. I like streaming for previewing albums I'll likely buy or discovering new artist. As far as Springsteen, I wish he'd make more albums like "Nebraska" but I did like his 2012 album "Wrecking Ball". I'm curious as to whether or not I'll like "High Hopes" any better than you did! :)

Well, over here in SA Spotify is not readily available. One has to go thru online tactics to make them believe we are streaming from within the US or select European countries where Spotify is available. So, Grooveshark was the choice for me since they do not seem to restrict by geographical location.

I find Grooveshark better for finding rare albums by classic rock artist and the sound is better on a lot of albums imo! :grinthumb

That's great to know! Can't believe I only discovered Grooveshark in 2013. lol. Until then I was under the impression that one cannot play any album at will on there. Thought it was more like radio.

These albums are all either in my possession (Switchfoot), on order (Young The Giant), on pre-order (Taking Back Sunday) or will be ordered as soon as the physical copy is out (Meg Myers)! Here's the artwork and singles until I get deeper into these! Just opened Switchfoot! :grinthumb

I don't own the first Foster The People album but I like their songs just fine. I don't know if they deserved the hype but their songs are fun and catchy! I'm not sure if the album coming out in March will beat the Sophomore slump but the new single is very enjoyable! It's less dark than "Pumped Up Kicks" for sure and has a more straight forward, prominent vocal. I love the wheee-ooooo type Beach Boy sound at the end! :grinthumb

I like Young The Giant's 'It's About time' and loving the style of Meg Myers. Wiki says her debut EP is available for free download on her website but I just checked and seems I missed the boat there 289haj8.jpg

I know two of these singles are 2013 releases but I'm hearing them all for the first time and it's a 2014 album release. I'm sure a lot of forum members will be buying this as it's seems to be one of the most popular current bands here. The album has a great guest list. Seeing Tarja must have been a dream for fans of the band. Howard Jones (former vocalist of Killswitch Engage), Xzibit and Dave Pirner (of Soul Asylum) are an eclectic list. Howard and Tarja seem like no brainers but the other two are a little odd and I'm a Soul Asylum fan. I will get this album as I have The Heart of Everything and The Unforgiving and these singles are great! :grinthumb
