While looking up Del Shannon for another thread, I realized that this was a 50s song done in 1961. It was one of the last hits from that era before music changed its sound to fit in with the new decade and bands like The Beatles and The Beach Boys took over.
In 1964, I think 50s music was still around. The Dixie Cups had a hit with 'Chapel Of Love' which IMO was clearly from the previous decade in terms of its sound. I'm still not sure if this was the last of that era but I thought it could qualify.
