Re: Daily, Nightly and Ever So Rightly II *Chat Thread*

Same! I watched couple of videos of Fender Jazz Bass and I really don't like the sound of it. It's not that 'rocky' and hammering and RIC. Urgh... I'm gonna give a try and make an order today and hopefully pay a deposit.

If your looking for a certain sound, look into what pick ups they have.. J type pick ups on Fenders have a bright top end which are great for that real metal sound and also good for slapping and popping.. P Basses are just shy of that bright tone you get.. Geddy's Bass is a P Bass and I wonder if he has active pick ups.
My Ibanez BTB OM 400 has active pick ups and also a tone adjustment that can really twang out the top end.. I mean it's really great for slapping and popping..
If you want check out this video.. It's sorta close enough like my Ibanez.. But is the sound your talking about??

I love the second hand cd shops we have around the place.
I am like a kid in a candy store when I look and see the sort of music people trade in, what they consider trash is now my treasure so to speak, probably sign of a music obsession. lol

No. The sound I am talking about can be heard on most of stoner/doom metal, like Kyuss and Sleep. The video you posted doesn't reflect the sound I'd like to hear, as (honestly) I hate slapping bass technique.

OK.. Well my best guess would be they are using effect pedal's to get that fuzz sound.. I have a effects Line 6 pod that I can pull 64 patterns out of.. Even a synth..
I've only played a Ric once and it didn't interest me as far as the neck was alot wider than I was used to.

They do use effects and distortion pedals, that's true. But still it's got that deeper and harder sound. Lots of prog rockers also played RIC, Geddy Lee and Chris Squire for example.

If you listen to Roundabout - that's Rickenbacker.

And also Mihály Tamás from Omega.
