I need help and I think this is the best place to get it.

I recently switched the format of one of my radio stations from rock/eclectic to Classic Rock.

I want to make sure I have not missed any of the "Must Haves" of Classic Rock.

So I would like everyone here's help in creating the Ultimate Classic Rock Playlist!

I will Give credit to the ClassicRockForums.com members for creating this playlist.

Just post the songs you think should be included here and I will start compiling this UCRP.

Your participation is strictly voluntary and appreciated. Thank You all

This is just my personal preference, but instead of the over-played "must-haves", how about some deep cuts? I'll include two by each band:

"Whispering Pines" and "It Makes No Difference" (Last Waltz version) - the Band
"Beware of Darkness" and "Sue Me Sue You Blues" - George Harrison
"I Don't Know Why" and "Please Go Home" - the Rolling Stones
"Thank You" and "Night Flight" - Led Zeppelin
"Little Billy" and "Don't Let Go the Coat" - the Who
"The Tattler" and "He'll Have To Go" - Ry Cooder
"The Ballad of Dwight Frye" and "Halo of Flies" - Alice Cooper
"Dealer" and "Rainmaker" - Traffic
"My Father's Gun" and "Elderberry Wine" - Elton John
"Monkberry Moon Delight" and "I'll Give You a Ring" - Paul McCartney
"Free Man in Paris" and "Shadows and Light" - Joni Mitchell
"Alabama" and "Welfare Mothers" - Neil Young
"Mandolin Wind" and "Blonds Have More Fun" - Rod Stewart

Maybe you can also include some "Roots of Rock" stuff, like Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly etc. I hope this is a little something to get you started. Best of luck.

Can I get a little more guidance? A must have in "classic rock" can go 50,000 songs deep. 70s and before? No 50s? This would be a tough question at any rate. Does soul music count? Would you rather have deeper type cuts?

Deeper cuts are ok, but still need what would be considered the Staples of Classic Rock. Consider what you would expect to hear when tuning into classic rock radio and also what you would want to hear.

Years would cover 60's-90's

I would like to stick to the main genre and not go into soul, funk, or other sub genres of rock.

Thanks Mr Dobolina, good entries there.

I recently switched the format of one of my radio stations from rock/eclectic to Classic Rock.
Years would cover 60's-90's

First thing - if you want to create a real ''classic rock'' station....

You shouldn't play 90's music.

Sorry, Pearl Jam and Nirvana are not classic rock...

I know most people nowadays are confused to what classic rock is.

Most knowledgeable rock fans would say classic rock was from 1964 to 1979, and maybe the first 5 years into the 80's.

Just my 2 cents.:)

Neil Young put out Rockin' in the Free world in November of 1989, which almost topped the charts in 1990 (hit #2).

Aerosmith had a dozen songs between 1985 and 1999 that were top 5 hits with half of those making it to #1.

Or... are Aerosmith and Neil Young not considered classic rock? There are a slew of examples of 'classic rock' artists that had hits in the 80's and 90's that still get airplay of those hits and are still considered classic rock by many, I'm not going to go on a diatribe and list off numerous examples.

I understand the sentiment you are trying to get across, but frankly, it goes get quite old when repeated as often as it does.
