Pete Way claimed in a Classic Rock magazine interview several years ago that if anyone wants to get into UFO they should avoid these albums completely and start with the PHENOMENON album in 1974.

ROCK ON TOMMY...

That's okay with me! Very unique stuff! Goes well on a playlist with Hawkwind!

Having said that those early UFO albums with Mick Bolton on the axe are fairly easy on the ear at 3:am when you want something to send you off to sleep ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..............

Recommended track-Starstorm

Also, Pete Way's bass playing was NEVER BETTER than this era of UFO.

Going to see UFO tonight @ a small venue called The Canyon Club. Can't wait,
I'd rather see them w/ Michael Schenker but Vinnie Moore is one hellva guitarist especially live. Wearing my MSG t-shirt because it went over so big w/ Phil Mogg last time I saw UFO :heheh:

This. The bass had more energy and power comparing to later albums.
The whole sound was more unique as well. I grew up with my brothers older friends saying these albums sucked and had never heard them until I found UFO1 in a bargain bin. These guys also panned The Scorpions first album. That is my favorite thing by them.

UFO were AWESOME tonight. They played 3 songs off the new one and the rest were from their golden era ....the Schenker years. They were definitely on.... Killer show.

Was Schenker playing with them? The last time I saw them was in the mid 90s, Schenker and the rest put on one hell of a show. It was a small club and we were right up in the front. It was freakin awesome.

A few years later they came back to another small club but had some 80s cheezer on guitar. I had no interest in seeing that.
