We're talking individual artists here, so Lennon and McCartney for example stand on their own. Great writers like Jim Morrison and Roger Waters lose big points for being less multidimensional, as do those with pure instrumental prowess like David Gilmour. Simply put, some groups like Pink Floyd are just more than the sum of their parts. This takes into account conceptuality, instrumental composition, lyricism, vocals, and influence.
