1967 One of Soul Asylum's founding members, bassist Karl Mueller, is born in Minneapolis.

1984 "Projects In The Jungle," the second album by Pantera, rolls out.

1984 Metallica's "Ride The Lightning," their second studio album, drops. It takes three years for the effort go gold but it eventually sells over six million copies.

1993 Smashing Pumpkins' "Siamese Dream," with the classic "Disarm," rolls out.

2010 "Nightmare," Avenged Sevenfold's fifth studio album, is out. It's the bands first album since the passing of drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan the previous December. They brought in Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy to finish the album. The title track is the lead single.

2015 Between The Buried And Me drummer Blake Richardson walks off the stage during the band's set in Salt Lake City. "I've been battling with a nerve issue in my left leg this entire tour," states Richardson who later apologizes for his actions. "The pain in my leg, coupled with a night full of technical difficulties, caused me to lash out in frustration."

1962 Karl Mueller (bassist for Soul Asylum) is born in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

1968 Mama Cass Elliot releases "Dream A Little Dream Of Me."

1968 The Rascals release "People Got To Be Free."

1973 Thousands of people hit Watkins Glen, New York, for the "Summer Jam" one day before the music festival is scheduled to begin. The crowd is already so large and so raucous that The Band turn their sound-check into a mini-set. The Allman Brothers Band follows in similar character by rocking through "One Way Out" and "Ramblin' Man." The Grateful Dead come next with a two-set explosion. This impromptu jam tires them not at all, and the next day they still scramble psyches with two long sets.

1973 The self-titled debut by the New York Dolls is released via Mercury Records (and produced by Todd Rundgren). The album spawns such glam/proto-punk classics as "Personality Crisis," "Looking for a Kiss," "Trash," and "Jet Boy."

1981 Blondie front woman Debbie Harry releases her first solo album, KooKoo. Its highest charting single is "Backfired," which hits #43 in the US, but the album still sells over 500,000 copies.

1993 Steve Vai's third solo album, Sex & Religion, is issued. The release is credited simply to "Vai," and is his first to feature traditional vocals, which were provided by a then-unknown Devin Townsend.

2002 John Entwistle (bass guitarist for The Who) dies in Paradise, Nevada, from a cocaine-induced heart attack at age 57.

1973, The Watkins Glen outdoor summer jam was held outside of Watkins Glen, New York with The Allman Brothers Band, The Grateful Dead and The Band. Over 600,000 rock fans attended. Many historians claimed the event was the largest gathering of people in the history of the United States. 150,000 tickets were sold for $10 each, but for all the other people it was a free concert. The crowd was so huge that a large part of the audience was not able to see the stage.

2011, 63-year-old singer Meat Loaf, passed out onstage at Pittsburgh's Trib Amphitheater during an apparent asthma attack. After about ten minutes he regained his composure and finished the show.
