1959 John Sykes (guitarist for Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy) is born in Reading, Berkshire, England.

1966 Bob Dylan gets in a famous motorcycle accident, and pretty much disappears for 9 months, leaving a void filled with rumors speculating on his condition. Dylan cleared things up in his 2004 autobiography, where he wrote: "I had been in a motorcycle accident and I'd been hurt, but I recovered. Truth was that I wanted to get out of the rat race."

1993 Eddie Guzman (drummer for Rare Earth) dies from complications of diabetes at age 49.

2011 Chuck Berry throws out the first pitch at the St. Louis Cardinals baseball game on the same day his statue is unveiled on Delmar Boulevard in the city

1974 Cass Elliot (of The Mamas & The Papas) dies of a heart attack (not from choking on a ham sandwich) in London, England at age 32.

1987 Ben and Jerry's introduces a new flavor: Cherry Garcia, named after the Grateful Dead front man Jerry Garcia.

2015 The Eagles play their last concert with Glenn Frey. The show takes place in Bossier City, Louisiana, the final date of their History of the Eagles tour. The set features 27 songs and two encores, closing with "Desperado." Founding member Frey dies six months later. The band continues on with his son, Deacon, in his stead.

1974: Neil Peart became the new drummer for Rush, replacing John Rutsey who left the band due to health problems.

1982: The Asgard Hotel in Dublin which was owned by Thin Lizzy singer/bassist Phil Lynott was completely destroyed in a fire.

1991, A police officer was forced to tear up a traffic ticket given to the limousine that Axl Rose was traveling in after it made an illegal turn. Rose threatened to pull that nights Guns N' Roses gig if the ticket was issued.

2003, Sam Phillips the founder of Sun Records and studio died of respiratory failure at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. In the 1940s, Phillips worked as a DJ for Muscle Shoals, Alabama radio station WLAY. Phillips recorded what some consider to be the first rock and roll record, ‘Rocket 88’ by Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats in 1951. He discovered Elvis Presley, worked with Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Ike Turner, B.B. King and Jerry Lee Lewis.

1936 Buddy Guy, a blues musician who will start his career in the '60s as the house guitarist for Chess Records, is born in Lettsworth, Louisiana.

1946 Jeffrey Hammond (bass guitarist for Jethro Tull) is born in Blackpool, Lancashire, England.

1958 Kate Bush is born in Bexleyheath, Kent, England

1965 The Rolling Stones release their fourth US album, Out Of Our Heads.

1966 The Troggs' "Wild Thing" hits #1.

1971 Brad Hargreaves (drummer for Third Eye Blind) is born in Marin County, California.

1996 Sublime's self-titled album is released. It's their major-label debut, and also their last, as lead singer Brad Nowell died of a heroin overdose two months earlier. The album goes on to sell over 5 million copies.

2002 Bruce Springsteen releases The Rising.

1971, A security guard was stabbed to death during a concert by The Who at New York's Forest Hill Stadium.

1980, During an Eagles concert at Long Beach, California, tempers boiled over between Glen Frey and Don Felder, who spent the entire show describing to each other the beating each planned to administer backstage. "Only three more songs until I kick your ass, pal," Frey told Felder. The group’s next album was mixed by Frey and Felder on opposite coasts after the two decided they couldn't bear to be in the same state, let alone the same studio.

2012, Appearing at the Helsinki Olympiastadionin Finland, at the end of a European tour, Bruce Springsteen played his longest show ever - 4 hours and 6 minutes.
