1967 John Lennon took his Rolls Royce to coach builders J.P. Fallon Ltd in Surrey to inquire if they could paint his car in psychedelic colors. This was based on an idea by Marijke Koger,”The Fool,” who was a member of Dutch team of gypsy artists. J.P. Fallon commissioned Steve Weaver’s pattern of scroll and flowers for the Phantom V. The cost for having the work done came in at £2,000.

1975 Aerosmith released their third studio album Toys In The Attic. The album is their most commercially successful in the US, with eight million copies sold and features the hit 'Walk This Way' which peaked at No.10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1977 when re-released and was one of the songs that helped break Aerosmith into the mainstream in the seventies.

2012 It was reported that organizers for the 2012 London Olympics ceremony had recently asked the manager of The Who if legendary drummer Keith Moon would be able to perform at the forthcoming London Olympics Games. Who manager Bill Curbishley, told The Times how he responded to the request. 'I emailed back saying Keith now resides in Golders Green crematorium, having lived up to The Who's anthemic line 'I hope I die before I get old,' he said. 'If they have a round table, some glasses and candles, we might contact him.

1944 Drummer Keef Hartley (of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Keef Hartley Band) is born in Preston, Lancashire, England.

1947 Rock guitarist Steve Howe (of Yes) is born in Holloway, London, England.

1951 Rock bassist Mel Schacher (of Grand Funk Railroad, ? & the Mysterians) is born in Owosso, Michigan.

1962 Guitarist Izzy Stradlin, a founding member of Guns N' Roses, is born Jeffrey Dean Isbell in Lafayette, Indiana.

1974 Dr. John releases the album Desitively Bonnaroo. The title, a creole saying for "good stuff," provides the appellation for the Bonnaroo music festival.

2024 While parts of North America experienced a total, solar eclipse, Bonnie Tyler's 1983 hit, "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" saw its streaming numbers jump by 480% from the previous week. On the day of the event, streams totaled 1.8 million, and actual sales of the song boosted it to the top of the iTunes chart.

1969, Bob Dylan released his ninth studio album Nashville Skyline, which embraced country music. With liner notes by Johnny Cash, (who also appeared on the record), at the time of release it was dismissed by some critics as lightweight, but included 'Lay, Lady, Lay', a major hit single for Dylan. The album also gave Dylan his fourth UK No.1 album.

1967 The Doors and The Jefferson Airplane appeared at Cheetah, Santa Monica Pier, Venice, California. This was the largest show The Doors had played to date with a crowd of over 3,000.

1988 Dave Prater of soul duo Sam & Dave was killed when his car left the road and hit a tree in Syracuse, Georgia, on his way to his mother’s house in Ocilla. He was 50. Prater recorded for Stax Records from 1965 to 1968, with hits including “Soul Man” and “Hold On, I’m Coming.”

1943 Music producer Terry Knight (Grand Funk Railroad, Bloodrock) is born Richard Terrance Knapp in Lapeer, Michigan.

1966 Jeff Beck collapses on stage at a Yardbirds concert in France. Said their drummer Jim McCarty: "You never really quite knew what was going to happen with him."

1969 King Crimson make their debut performance with a show at the Speakeasy in London.

1966 Released the previous month, "Monday, Monday" by The Mamas And The Papas entered the Billboard Hot 100 at #79. Denny Doherty, who sang lead on the track, would later say that he thought very little of the song when they recorded it. "Nothing about it stood out to me; it was a dumb f--kin' song about a day of the week." Backed by studio musicians known as The Wrecking Crew, the record would climb to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, the Cashbox Best Sellers list, and Canada's RPM chart. In the UK, it rose to #3.

2022 After vowing that he would only perform his father's 1971 song, "Imagine" if it was the end of the world, Julien Lennon did just that during a benefit for Ukrainian refugees. Closing out a televised European Union pledge drive that raised $10.1 billion in grants and loans for the cause, the 59-year-old singer said "The war on Ukraine is an unimaginable tragedy... As a human, and as an artist, I felt compelled to respond in the most significant way I could."
