1985 The L.A. quartet Autograph enter the Billboard Hot 100 with "Turn Up The Radio", which will peak at #39. The single, taken from their Platinum selling album "Sign In Please", was later featured in an episode of Miami Vice and numerous other films.

1976 AC/DC shot the video clip for “It’s A Long Way To The Top, (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll)” for the Australian music television program Countdown. It featured the band’s then-current lineup, along with members of the Rats of Tobruk Pipe Band, on the back of a flat-bed truck traveling on Swanston Street in Melbourne, Australia.

2003, Howie Epstein, bassist with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers died of a suspected drug overdose in New Mexico. He had replaced The Heartbreakers original bassist Ron Blair. Epstein also worked with Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Stevie Nicks, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Linda Ronstadt and Del Shannon.

1963 The Rolling Stones take over as the Sunday house band at the Station Hotel near London. They are paid 24 Pounds ($67) to entertain a crowd of 66 people.

2011 Eddie Serrato, the drummer for Question Mark And The Mysterians on their 1966 hit "96 Tears", suffered a fatal heart attack at the age of 65.

1975 Led Zeppelin released their sixth album Physical Graffiti in the UK. Recording sessions had been disrupted when bassist and keyboard player John Paul Jones had proposed quitting the band, supposedly to become choirmaster at Winchester Cathedral, England, although in reality he just needed time to rest after Zeppelin’s demanding tour schedule. The group decided on a double album so they could feature songs left over from their previous albums Led Zeppelin III, Led Zeppelin IV and Houses Of The Holy.

On this day in 1998, Elton John (born Reginald Kenneth Dwight) became Sir Elton John, knighted by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. He was awarded the title of Knight Bachelor for "services to music and charitable services". John has performed at a number of royal events, such as the funeral of Princess Diana at Westminster Abbey in 1997, the Party at the Palace in 2002 and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert outside Buckingham Palace in 2012. After more than half a century on the road and an unparalleled career that has redefined the cultural landscape, Elton is currently embarking on his final tour.
