1964 Radio Caroline, the UK's first all-day English-language "pirate" radio station, begins broadcasting from the Fredericia, a former Danish ferry, in the North Sea.

1979: Supertramp released their sixth album Breakfast in America which went on to become their most successful album selling four million copies in the U.S. & reaching number one on the Billboard 200 Album Chart for six weeks.

2005: Neil Young underwent surgery at a New York hospital to treat a brain aneurysm. Young first realized something was wrong when his vision became blurry after attending the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony weeks earlier.

1941 Graeme Edge of The Moody Blues is born in Staffordshire, England.

1945 Eric Clapton is born in Ripley, England. He forms the bands Cream, Blind Faith and Derek & the Dominos. His birth name is often erroneously reported as "Eric Clapp," as Clapp is the surname of his grandparents who raised him.

1948 Black Oak Arkansas lead singer Jim "Dandy" Mangrum is born in Michigan.

1962 MC Hammer is born in Oakland, California. His birth name is Stanley Burrell, but he is dubbed "Hammer" when he becomes a batboy for the Oakland A's, since he looks like hall-of-famer "Hammerin'" Hank Aaron.

1976 Led Zeppelin released Presence, their seventh studio album, on their own Swan Song Records in the UK. Presence has now been certified 3 times Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for US sales in excess of 3 million copies.

1987 Prince released his ninth studio album Sign o' the Times which produced three top-ten hit singles, 'If I Was Your Girlfriend', 'U Got the Look', (with Sheena Easton) and the title track 'Sign o' the Times. In 1989, Time Out magazine ranked it as the greatest album of all time.

1992 Def Leppard released their fifth studio album Adrenalize, the first by the band following the 1991 death of guitarist Steve Clark. Former Dio and Whitesnake guitarist Vivian Campbell, was brought in as the newest member in April 1992. He appears in all promotional videos for the album's singles (except 'Let's Get Rocked'), despite not playing on the album.

1946 Al Nichol (guitarist for The Turtles) is born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

1953 Sean Hopper (keyboardist for Huey Lewis & the News) is born in San Francisco, California.

1955 Angus Young is born in Glasgow, Scotland. He later moves to Australia and forms AC/DC with his brother Malcolm.

1954 Tony Brock (drummer for The Tubes, The Babys) is born in Poole, Dorset, England.

1958 Pat McGlynn (rhythm guitarist for Bay City Rollers) is born in Edinburgh, Scotland.

1958 Chuck Berry releases "Johnny B. Goode." The song is named after his piano player (Johnnie Johnson) and the street where he grew up (Goode Avenue).

1992 Bruce Springsteen releases two albums, Human Touch and Lucky Town.
