1963, The Everly Brothers, Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Mickie Most, The Rolling Stones, Julie Grant and The Flintstones all appeared at The Goumont Theatre, St Albans, England.

1965, The Who released the single 'My Generation' in the UK. The song was named the 11th greatest song by Rolling Stone on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and 13th on VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Songs of Rock & Roll. It reached No. 2 in the UK, the Who's highest charting single in their home country but only No. 74 in America.

1971, Duane Allman of The Allman Brothers Band was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle on a Macon, Georgia street while trying to swerve to avoid a tractor-trailer and was thrown from the motorcycle. The motorcycle bounced into the air, landed on Allman and skidded another 90 feet with Allman pinned underneath. He was three weeks shy of his 25th birthday.

1944 Denny Laine is born Brian Hines on a boat off the Jersey coast. He becomes a founding member of both The Moody Blues and Wings.

1946 Rock guitarist Peter Green (of Fleetwood Mac, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers) is born in Bethnal Green, London, England.

1955 Kevin DuBrow (lead singer of Quiet Riot) is born in Los Angeles, California.

1966 After topping the Cashbox Magazine Best Sellers Chart two weeks earlier, ? and the Mysterians "96 Tears" reached number one on the Billboard chart. Although he closely guarded his true identity at the time, the man known as Question Mark turned out to be Rudy Martinez, from Saginaw Valley, Michigan.


1984 Wells Kelly, drummer for Orleans on their hits "Still The One" and "Love Takes Time", was found dead from asphyxiation at the front door of his hotel. The 35-year-old was on tour with Meatloaf at the time. .

1968 Malcolm Hale, guitarist for Spanky And Our Gang, died suddenly of pneumonia at the age of 27. The group placed five songs on the Billboard Top 40 between 1967 and 1968, including "Sunday Will Never Be The Same" (#9), "Lazy Day" (#14) and "Like To Get To Know You" (#17).

1970 Former Mamas And Papas singer Michelle Phillips marries actor Dennis Hopper (Easy Rider). They would divorce 8 days later.

1975 Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" was released as a single. It would stay on the chart for seventeen weeks, nine of them at number one and would eventually go Platinum. The song would be re-released in December, 1991 after being featured in the movie Wayne's World and became a hit all over again.
