1930 Singer/actor Richard Harris, who has an unlikely hit with "MacArthur Park," is born in Limerick, Ireland.

1947 Martin Turner (bassist/lead vocalist for Wishbone Ash) is born in Torquay, Devon, England.

1948 Michael "Cub" Koda (frontman for Brownsville Station) is born in Detroit, Michigan. Wrote the group's 1973 hit "Smokin' in the Boy's Room," which would late be covered by Motley Crue.

1970 Janis Joplin makes her last recordings, singing "Mercedes Benz," which is included on her posthumous Pearl album a capella. She also records a goofy version of "Happy Trails" as a birthday present for John Lennon. Joplin dies three days later.

2011 After 28 years and two children together, Gene Simmons (62) and Shannon Tweed (54) finally get married. Their wedding song is "At Last," sung by their daughter Sophie.

2015 Motorhead unveil their own branded whiskey (even though lead vocalist and bassist Lemmy Kilmister has dropped whiskey in favor of vodka for 'health reasons'). Motorhead Drinks (which already includes beer, wine and vodka) is a collaborative effort between the band and Mackmyra, a Swedish distillery. Initially, the whiskey is only available in Sweden.

1960, 'Stay' by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs entered the US chart on its way to No.1. At just 1:37, it becomes the shortest US chart topper in Rock and Roll history.

1976 John Belushi joins Joe Cocker on Saturday Night Live during the performance of "Feeling Alright". Belushi performs his exaggeratedly spastic imitation of Cocker and the crowd goes wild. After the show, Cocker says he's happy with Belushi's impression of him.

Tom Petty, 66, goes into cardiac arrest at his Malibu home. He is taken to UCLA medical center, but cannot be revived. Later that night, after his friends and family gather, he is taken off life support.

1958, The Biggest Show Of Stars 1958 Tour kicked off at the Worcester Auditorium in Worcester, Massachusetts. This Autumn Edition featured; Buddy Holly, Frankie Avalon, Bobby Darin, The Olympics, Dion & The Belmonts, Bobby Freeman, The Elegants, Jimmy Clanton, The Danleers, Duane Eddy, Clyde McPhatter and The Coasters.

1967, American singer, songwriter Woody Guthrie died after suffering from Huntington's Chorea disease. Guthrie was a major influence on Bob Dylan and American folk music. The 70s film 'Bound For Glory' is based on his life. His best-known song is 'This Land Is Your Land', which is regularly sung in American schools.

2000, The Cars singer and bass player Benjamin Orr died of cancer at home in Atlanta at the age of 53. Sang lead vocals on the bands hits ‘Just What I Needed’, ‘Let's Go’ and ‘Drive’.
