1947 Joey Molland (guitarist, keyboardist for Badfinger) is born in Edge Hill, Liverpool, England.

1950 Joey Kramer (drummer for Aerosmith) is born in The Bronx, New York City.

1951 Rock multi-instrumentalist Nils Lofgren (of Grin, E Street Band, All Starr Band) is born in Chicago, Illinois.

1967 Must be the Summer of Love: There's a free concert in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park celebrating the Summer Solstice. The Grateful Dead, Big Brother & the Holding Company, and Quicksilver Messenger Service all perform.

1976 Mike Einziger (guitarist for Incubus) is born in Los Angeles, California.

1979 Angus MacLise (original drummer for The Velvet Underground) dies of hypoglycemia and tuberculosis at age 41.

1939 Bobby Harrison is born in West Ham, England. The Procol Harum drummer will leave the band, along with guitarist Ray Royer, to form Freedom.

1947 Howard Kaylan (lead singer of The Turtles, Flo & Eddie) is born Howard Kaplan in the Bronx, New York.

1948 Todd Rundgren is born outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In the '70s, he becomes a top solo artist and one of the most celebrated producers in music, with Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell his biggest commercial success.

1957 Garry Beers (bass guitarist for INXS) is born in Manly, New South Wales, Australia.

1990 Billy Joel becomes the first rock act to play at Yankee Stadium when he performs at the first of two sellout shows.

2004 Lynyrd Skynyrd releases Lynyrd Skynyrd Lyve: The Vicious Cycle Tour, their fifth live album. Featuring music from a July 11, 2003 performance at Antioch, Tennessee's Amsouth Amphitheater, it celebrates the band's thirty year anniversary.

2010 Lynyrd Skynyrd releases Live from Freedom Hall, their eight live album. It features music performed June 15, 2007 at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky.

2018 Pantera drummer and co-founder Vinnie Paul dies at 54.

1975, During his 'Welcome To My Nightmare' tour in Vancouver, Canada, Alice Cooper fell from the stage and broke six ribs.

1990, Buddy Holly's Gibson acoustic guitar sold for £139,658 ($237,419) in a Sotheby's auction. The guitar was in a tooled leather case made by Holly himself.

2010, 62-year-old Gregg Allman underwent a successful liver transplant operation at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. Allman had begun a series of treatments for Hepatitis C, but chronic damage of his liver led doctors to recommend a transplant. In a statement to the press, Allman said "I changed my ways years ago, but we can't turn back time. Every day is a gift."

2004, A Fender Stratocaster that Eric Clapton nicknamed 'Blackie' sold at a Christie's auction for $959,500 (£564,412) in New York, making it the most expensive guitar in the world. The proceeds of the sale went towards Clapton's Crossroads addiction clinic, which he founded in 1998.

2013, Former Devo drummer Alan Myers died aged 58 in Los Angeles, California, following a long bout with cancer. Myers drummed for Devo between 1976 and 1986.

1945 Colin Blunstone (lead singer of The Zombies) is born in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England.

1947 Mick Fleetwood (drummer for Fleetwood Mac) is born in Redruth, Cornwall, England, though he'll grow up in locales around the world due to his father's career as a Royal Air Force fighter pilot.

1948 Patrick Moraz (keyboardist for Yes, The Moody Blues) is born in Morges, Switzerland.

1949 John Illsley (bass guitarist for Dire Straits) is born in Leicester, England.
