Some of what I've heard by them is great and other stuff I couldn't, or wouldn't want to listen to twice. I really liked the Icky Thump album. I wonder how many people really know where that album's name originated? At least I know when the first time I heard it was. I'm not sure if it's the "origin" really, but what an off the wall thing to call an album.

I think that's what I really like about what I have heard of his material. Just so unique and imaginative.

When I heard the name "Icky Thump" the first time, I was reminded of an old campy series from the BBC called "The Goodies", similar to Monty Python. Anyway one episode was havin' a go at martial arts shows/movies and they called their discpline.."Icky Thump". That is the Only time I have heard the term used, but there are probably others out there too.:D

That's precisely the reference I was thinking of. :) It was a parody on the 70s show called Kung Fu. Icky Thump was the martial art of pudding wielding. It seems if I am remembering correctly that the whole episode of the show centered around this theme.

I've written many very similar posts to the above in my time CH XD

Well great minds think alike and whatnot. :heheh:

:) Jolene by the white stripes is one of my fav. songs.

Likewise. That version from "Under Blackpool Lights" is just....wow.....:eek:hyeah:

Personally I would like to hear what Jack could do with Neal Peart or some other more skilled drummer.;)

Oh and Very Nice thread as usual Cosmic.

Oh geeze....well.....you know? People criticize Meg's drumming all the time and when I hear that I actually bring up Neil Pert. I see it like this, with the explosive power chords and manic solos ("Ball and Biscuit", "Icky Thump", "Baby Brother", etc) that Jack uses there really is NO other drummer that he could play with. Amist the borderline chaos of Jack's playing you need a simple, consistent beat to keep everything grounded and still in a controlled state. If you were to have both Jack and Neil (or any drummer more complex than Meg for that matter) trying to do what both of them do then what they'd produce would not be music, it'd be the sound of chaos. :wtf:

Thank you as always by the way. :)

Also, "Icky Thump" is actually just a different typeset for "Eecky Thump" (for pronunciation's sake), which is UK slang that loosely means "What the hell?"

I am not against Meg and don't hate her Cosmic, but there is no getting around that there are definitely more skilled drummers out there, I would just like to hear what Jack would sound like with one of the best that's all.;)

Well curiosity is all well and good, but I still stand behind thinking that such a duo would produce the soundtrack of pure madness. ;)

Makes sense. The Goodies were a British TV show. I am also pretty certain that they pronounced it Ecky and not Icky. Rhyming with Deck, not Dick.

The show was made and run during the 70s and would come on over the Canadian Broadcast. I think there were a UHF channel that would run it too a little later. Second City TV (wasn't that the original John Candy & Martin Short nest?) , as LG said, Monty Python, The Prisoner and some of my personal favorites like MR. Dress Up and The Friendly Giant.

It might be that way. I always though it was pronounced like "knee" though.... *shrugs*

She has other talents IMO. Like this song, where she sings.
