Re: The Guess Who

My favorite song by the Guess Who

link's dead...

Burton Cummings explained that the song began as a jam and was originally called "Clap For Napoleon." As they were appearing on NBC's Midnight Special a few times in 1973 (they hosted the show in '74), they changed the lyric as a tribute to the show's host, the late Wolfman Jack (real name: Robert Smith). Wolfman Jack even did a couple of live dates with the group, adding his trademark "vocal" rap, which was usually done live by Cummings. (thanks, Barry Kesten - Bellmore, United States)

Re: guess who?

i like quite a few singles they released, especially 'glamour boy.' wasn't this song inspired by bowie?

a great live performance in '97 and the voice sounds good.
i recall when i first heard steve tyler i kept thinking how similar he sounded to burton cummings
never heard anyone else make the comparison so maybe i'm wrong.

Definitely one of our best bands especially the early line-up before Randy left to form BTO.

I don't really remember why/when I discovered this band... I knew them before the cover did by Kravitz (which I didn't really like...)
Well, I really like their album "American Woman", very very great!

I didn't like the Kravitz cover either,,,the original is way better.

The Guess Who have done quite a few good records, "Wheatfield Soul" is another one I would recommend.

^^Nice to see someone diggin' into The Guess Who.

Here's one of my favorite songs, the title track off "Road Food", which had the hit single "Clap for the Wolfman".

Road Food.

I like the song.

I'm listening to "Wheatfield Soul", These Eyes is a nice song, I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy this album ^^

The Guess Who has a specific sound, yeah it's vintage, but it doesn't sound like any other band.
