Rubber Soul is my all time favorite Beatles album..just for public record.
It doesn't have the flash fancy slickness of later albums it's simple and beautiful.
It is also one of the last albums they were still writing songs together..unlike later ones were they might add a line or riff what have you..to a song..
In Rubber Soul they were still getting on as a band and as mates,,and I just like that they still ENJOYED playing together at this point..They were contributing more of THEIR ideas into the music..
less George Martin more Beatles
....after listening to For Sale again today and seeing the love here for Rubber Soul I had to post. Sorry Garrett and Astrid for sandwiching that in the middle.
But IMO this was the start of Rubber Soul right there. Great things came from For Sale (as well as HELP)
I just like their playing writing..this album was a turning point album imo..because it wasn't the ya ya ya cutesy stuff of the early stuff
but it was them all maturing in their writing and their musicianship.
yet they weren't 'jaded' by drugs..the business... war protest..women ? (lol) quite yet..and while I love all eras..this one and Revolver to some degree as well, was just perfect music. Happy Times in their lives...it's really a wonderful era..

On November 15th, 1959....Johnny and the Moondogs, (The Beatles) played in the final heat of the 'TV Star Search' competition at The Hippodrome Theatre, Manchester, England. Since the Moondogs had no money to stay overnight in Manchester, they were forced to head back to Liverpool before they were called back onto stage. They did not win.

Recordings of The Beatles in BBC Radio and Radio Sweden auditions 63-65.
They called themselves Johnny and the Moondogs just for these auditions, which they unfortunately failed. One can only wonder whether Johnny and the Moondogs might have become a household name if they had passed the audition!
