On August 28 1968, Working at Trident Studios, London, The Beatles started recording a new John Lennon song ‘Dear Prudence’. They built the song instrument by instrument, utilizing the 8-track equipment at Trident. John and George played guitars, while Paul plays drums to compensate for Ringo, who had quit The Beatles on August 22. Trident Studios`s 8 track machine was why The Beatles went there in 1968 to record The White album because Abbey Road Studios still only had a 4 track machine.

On September 4, 1968, The Beatles recorded promotional videos for Hey Jude and Revolution at Twickenham Film Studios. The vocals are recorded live over the pre-recorded instrumental tracks to get round the current British Musicians Union ban on lip-sync performances. For Hey Jude, The Beatles were accompanied by a 36-piece orchestra and 300 fans and other assorted extras who join in singing the long refrain.

George Harrison

February 25, 1943 - November 29, 2001

On September 6, 1968 While working at Abbey Road studio’s in London, The Beatles recoded overdubs onto the new George Harrison song ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’. Eric Clapton added the guitar solo and became the first outside musician to play on a Beatles recording and George recorded his lead vocal.

On 6 September 1968, during a ride from Surrey into London, Harrison asked Eric Clapton to add a lead guitar solo to the song. Clapton was reluctant he said, "Nobody ever plays on the Beatles' records" but Harrison convinced him and Clapton's solo was recorded that evening. Harrison later said that in addition to his solo, Clapton's presence had another effect on the band, "It made them all try a bit harder, they were all on their best behavior."

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" first appeared on The White album in 1968.

"I wrote "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" at my mother's house in Warrington. I was thinking about the Chinese "I Ching", the Book of Changes... The Eastern concept is that whatever happens is all meant to be, and that there's no such thing as coincidence, every little item that's going down has a purpose.

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was a simple study based on that theory. I decided to write a song based on the first thing I saw upon opening any book as it would be a relative to that moment, at that time. I picked up a book at random, opened it, saw 'gently weeps', then laid the book down again and started the song."

~George Harrison~

In 2004, George Harrison was inducted posthumously into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist.
