I'll post some pictures later 2LITTLETIME, I've just about finished breaking them in, takes about 50 hours to really "seat" the drivers and get the full potential out of most speakers.

I ended up talking to Wade at National Music last Saturday, and we demo'd a couple of speakers. I asked him what kind of sale price he could do, and after thinking it over I picked up a pair of these.

Monitor Audio Silver RX-8's. I was looking for a pair of dedicated speakers for my analog vintage system and loved the feel of these. A really nice resonant bass, not harsh on the high end and the midrange feels just right. Been breaking them in this week and they sound better and better. Tested them thoroughly with my best vinyl and they passed with flying colours.

The competition were, PSB's, Paradigm's and Totem's and the 3 online companies I mentioned a page back...for the price point Monitor Audio fit my needs and budget like a glove.

The finish is excellent, dark walnut real wood veneer. The drivers are mounted with long hexagonal bolts from the rear, so the baffles haven't got any screws showing, a rather neat innovation.

Specifications, from 32 Hz - 30 KHz, 6 Ohms and 50 - 200 Watts to drive them comfortably.

I'm very impressed with them so far.:grinthumb

^^The drivers are more silver than white George, but my little camera is not the greatest they look a lot better than the pictures I posted.

But thanks, I am pleased with them, the solid bass is most impressive to me and they don't take up a lot of room. When I played Kansas "Leftoverture" it was glorious, the heavy kick drum sounded perfect, along with all the other instruments.:grinthumb

I was leaning towards the Ascend Sierra towers...but when I do the math the RX-8's will save me about $400 when it's all said and done.

^^Yes Carry On Wayward Son was EPIC when I played it...

If they weren't on sale I wouldn't have picked them up 2LITTLETIME, all the other speakers I was considering were in the same price range.

Yes i got them from a shop(above is just an example).Im very impressed but i agree a proper system will outshine them.
My mp3s are ripped at 320 kbps.If ive blagged a freebie download i dont mind 192kbps.
I assume you have the sansa clip(heard they are good).Incidentally i have senheiser px 100
headphones which are good for my needs. To be honest since ive got the speakers im not really bothered about my headphones anymore.I just wear them for dogwalking.Id just love to pop around yours Lord and listen to some Lord of the deep purple kind on your excellent system.Whats your view on this streaming fad ?

320's are okay, if I were to load up my Sansa with lossy files that's the bitrate I would want.

You would be welcome to pull up a chair and listen to my stuff and I'll throw in a beer or two if you were thirsty.(Listening to good music can build up a thirst.:D )

Streaming...I see the convenience of it etc., but it's not something I really bother with. For me it's always been about quality first and foremost, my older brother on the other hand uses all the newfangled ways of listening to his music including various streaming sites.

^Thanks for the reply^
I was looking through an audiophile mag today when i was out and came across your speakers in a comparison test with others in that price range. They came out very favourably indeed.
Ive a question for you in relation to bad sibilance on the vocals.I get this a lot from downloads even at 320.
Do you ever get it from vinyl sources or from your own cds...
I looked up the definition cos im an idiot lol

Sibilance is a sound characterized by pronouncing words with the letter 's'. In audio reproduction the letter 's' should sound clear and distinct, not smeared or distorted as in 'sh'. The letter 's' should sound like a hissing sound.
