I've been listening to Electric Warrior a lot this year, it is without doubt one of the best albums of the 70's. I wish Bolan had more guidance and was more savvy when it came to his image and the way he went about it with the press. The media crucified him at the time and unjustly so, forcing him into a musical realm he was decidedly uncomfortable with. I didn't like the funky stuff at all, he should never have lost Visconti as producer, ego and a poor choice of lifestyle got in the way of his career. By 1977 he was a fitness geek and trimmed down and looked good, he even listened to his band members ideas and the result was evident on the Dandy album. On Electric Warrior he is in his rock n' roll element doing what he does best in his own Chuck Berry version of T Rex way. His influence is mega and he should be recognised as such much more than he is. Marc Bolan was the ultimate rock star, he looked good, he sounded good, he was good! Anyone who writes "you're a silver studded sabre toothed dream" is alright by me.
