Symphony X Official Website

Seems like the band Michael Romeo put together in 1994 never gets much respect, at least not as much as their contemporaries Dream Theater. It's a shame really that not more people know about this progressive metal band, they've been cranking out good albums since "The Divine Wings of Tragedy". Fortunately they have found success overseas like many other American metal bands. Russell Allen is one of the best vocalists in metal, when he joined Symphony X for their 3rd album that was the missing piece. They have a penchant for writing about the past, based on historic novels and mythology and recording concept albums, which I've always had a weakness for.

I've got all their albums, but unless you're a completionist I would start with their 3rd release, "Divine Wings Of Tragedy", it's much better than the first two.

This band was new to me until you turned me on to them with the new album LG. Loving that one and now I will backtrack. :grinthumb

Re: The Official Symphony X Thread

Thanks for stopping by TUNEZ.:hab:

You've been writing a lot of good threads for us lately so I figured I'd knock the rust off and do one myself.:D

For some reason this band gets overlooked a lot, I think they can hold their own with any of their peers. I stumbled across them about 4 years ago by sheer luck and am glad I did. There is nothing "wrong" with their first two CD's, but Russell Allen joined on "Divine..." and that is a Huge step forward for the band. Romeo is a very good guitarist as well, but you don't hear about him as much as Petrucci or Shaffer for example.

3 Michaels in the band?! :heheh: that must have been fun in the studio. "Hey Mike" and 3 guys all say "wuh?!" at the same time. :D

Just listened to Divine Wings #2. Pretty damn cool. I'll check out the other tunes later. Might be a good band to do some digging on. :)

Indeed Symphony X is such an underrated band. I know them since The Divine Wings of Tragedy but I must admit I did not pay them very much attention. After Divine Wings and Twilight in Olympus I rediscovered them with Paradise Lost and now with Iconoclast.

Surprised there wasn't a thread on these guys a lot earlier than now. But I agree with a lot of the comments, easily one of the most underrated and overlooked prog bands nowadays. Their talents are unbelievable.

Re: The Official Symphony X Thread

Nice to see some fans of their's in here.:D

Even Lynch gave them a listen.

I don't write many threads anymore Prime on purpose, I know members enjoying writing them so I tend to wait for them to fill the holes these days. I didn't get around to Symphony X months ago,,,looking back I should have they deserve some love.

I gotta fill up my collection with these guys. Not sure why I don't have anything by them.
