Re: Supertramp

There's some great blues harp in a number of Supertramp recordings including the intro to this track:

Re: Supertramp

I never owned any Supertramp albums, but I always liked what I heard on the radio. I recently checked them out on iTunes and grabbed enough songs to create a decent "Best Of" CD. The thing I can appreciate about the group is the level of musicanship. They're obviously all very accomplished musicians, but I don't hear the same superb sound quality on other albums from around the same time.

I especially like "School", "Lady", "Sister Moonshine", "Just Another Nervous Wreck" and, of course, "Even In The Quietest Moments".

Saw then in concert back in 83 before Hodgson "split the band" (as Elton would say) and they put on a great show!

Re: Supertramp

I played their debut album this afternoon, and it is a lot different from the later recordings, almost all the vocals are done by Roger and I don't think Rick Davies sings lead at all. I'm playing Indelibly Stamped later to see what it sounds like, been so long since I listened to it I can't remember any of the songs...lol.

KMET I agree their albums are superbly produced/engineered, the pianos and everything are just perfect.

I've played "Indeliby Stamped" 3 times over the last couple of days, and I have to say it is a really good CD. For those people who don't like Supertramp for whatever reason, you should at least play this one a couple of times. It is without doubt the lightest recording of their early years, totally enjoyable, in fact you could picture the band smiling when they made this one. As I noted earlier it had been so long since I heard any songs from this album, I had completely forgotten what it sounded like, and what a pleasant surprise was in store for me.:D

Coming Home To See You.

Re: Supertramp

I wish I could contribute more to this thread. I liked Supertramp and had the Crime and Breakfast albums. This is totally irrelevant, but an old roomy of mine back when I lived in southern California had a girlfriend who loved ST. No big deal there except I was told she loved to do the wild thing on the dresser. Now every time I hear ST I can't get her out of my mind. :lmao:

Sorry, I know that just made your day. :bonk:

Re: Supertramp

Okay the last album I own of Supertramp is up next, and it was the First one they released. I was kind of surprised by the record, I could not hear Rick Davies on lead vocals on any of the tracks, it sounded like a Roger Hodgson solo album almost, which is okay I like him, but seeing I started with Crime...and went forward from there and then backtracked to the beginning it was just weird. Also this album has way more guitar featured as the main instrument, unlike the classic Supertramp keyboard sound that came later. It's not their best effort, kind of hit and miss but I play it once in a while and it does have some good moments. Sure shows how far they progressed by the time Breakfast...was released.

It's a Long Road.

You're right. Supertramp is defined by their keyboard sound.

what's the ultimate gift for a supertramp fan?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a gift for an avid supertramp fan - any ideas?

I was thinking of having one of their best albums framed and mounted, but I'm not familiar with the group. It would give it away if I asked himself :)

Suggestions?

Re: Supertramp

I would pick "Crime Of The Century" to frame and mount as a present for a Supertramp fan. You could goggle their homepage and see what else is available, many band sites have extensive memorabilia listed for sale.
