Re: Supertramp

Crime was one of the first "super discs" I bought when I first got into high-end audio. It was on a Mo-Fi LP and the sound was spectacular (I shouldn't say "was" - I still have it, and it still sounds great). It was one of my favorite demo discs - I'd put it on and play the first cut, "School," turned loud enough that the playground sounds were easily heard, and when that shriek/scream hits just before the music starts, it would jolt listeners out of their seats. Ah, good times. :)

I've always thought it was a great album in whole, too. Probably my favorite track was "Hide in Your Shell." I just love the way the themes develop and it gradually builds. I lost interest in the group during their Breakfast heyday - they became overplayed IMO, and I thought the music on that album wasn't quite as interesting. The only other music of theirs I bought after that was Hodgson's first solo record.

LG, if you can recommend any of their albums that have the same depth of material as Crime, I'd be happy to give them a listen.

Re: Supertramp

I think you would like "Even In The Quietest Moments" Craig, I have it rated just above Crime of the Century on my personal list.

I'll have my pictures of my Stunning vinyl UHQR Supertramp album up later today or tomorrow in the Stereo thread, it is the most amazing vinyl album I bought.

Billy Joel knows.
Re: Supertramp

Oh darn. Sorry for my "negatations" on this group. They never found a spot in my muscial fabric. I jest didn't care for their schtick. Sort of like Styx. If DeYoung would have shut up and let them guys twiddle their axes, it would have been fine. But his whiny little voice didn't fit in rock. Supertramp has some jazz influences, but their choice of instruments didn't work out of their writings well. Take The Long Way home, sounds like a kiddie tune to learn how to spell or something. Mr. Yuk :(:wa

Re: Supertramp

^^I have to disagree Elfranco, Supertramp was a fine band, and I Loved their unique keyboard driven sound myself. If you don't like the vocalists, Hodgson or Davies then it is hard to get into them, but I do so their music is fine with me.:mn:

Thanks for the recommendation. I added it to the queue in my less-than-wonderful record club I belong to. At least that way I can get it cheap. ;)

Re: Supertramp

I like Roger's solo album too, "Eye of the Storm", it's almost like another Supertramp record.
