Re: Supertramp
Crime was one of the first "super discs" I bought when I first got into high-end audio. It was on a Mo-Fi LP and the sound was spectacular (I shouldn't say "was" - I still have it, and it still sounds great). It was one of my favorite demo discs - I'd put it on and play the first cut, "School," turned loud enough that the playground sounds were easily heard, and when that shriek/scream hits just before the music starts, it would jolt listeners out of their seats. Ah, good times.
I've always thought it was a great album in whole, too. Probably my favorite track was "Hide in Your Shell." I just love the way the themes develop and it gradually builds. I lost interest in the group during their Breakfast heyday - they became overplayed IMO, and I thought the music on that album wasn't quite as interesting. The only other music of theirs I bought after that was Hodgson's first solo record.
LG, if you can recommend any of their albums that have the same depth of material as Crime, I'd be happy to give them a listen.
