Re: Starz

Thanks for introducing me to another new band! After hearing all the vids you can tell that many hair bands were influenced by them! :grinthumb

Cool!! That they were.

I love the tune Cherry Baby and their first self titled is perfect,as well as the most musically exlpored.

Back in the 70's there wasn't the whole "hair band" thing so bands like STARZ were really about the songwriting and the muscianship first.

In my opinion they were going for an Aerosmith,KISS, New York Dolls mixed with U.F.O./ Thin Lizzy sort of vibe.

Odd combination but it works. Being hooked up wih KISS' manager back in the day didn't help...I don't think Aucoin gave them as big of a push as he did KISS. (but I could be wrong)

But with the members coming from such great past non-metal acts as Looking Glass and Stories, the musicianship and skills were there and pretty high.

Here is a cool clip of Richie Ranno in recent years playing some killer blues guitar. In STARZ he is the one playing the double neck SG in Cherry Baby. :grinthumb

Re: Starz

MP is right, the skill of Starz was apparent from the first time I played their albums. They were about the music, not just a flashy image.

Glad to see you like them Bry.

Re: Starz

Me too..I'm glad you like 'em..sad as it is life goes on and we get older but they do play together still today. It's heartwarming to see them playing for die hard cult fans back in clubs...but still a bit sad that the big time wasn't in the cards for them accept for a couple years there in the 70's when they could play an arena.

Anyway here is STARZ today. I'll also supply a link to their website if anyone would like to keep up on these guys. :grinthumb

On these two clips there are three out of five original members. Richie (on our right): Guitar, Joe: Drums and Michael :Vocals

Probably my favorite STARZ song ever here...NIGHTCRAWLER..
