Sounds like Queens Of The Stone Age to me, very much in their style with a few other flavours in the mix too. I like it! :grinthumb

Oh yes there was plenty of super hero ones which do zero for me (although I may have to watch Thor, but that's purely because Chris Hemsworth is in it ONipk.gif :heheh:) If there's a spooky release you can bet I've seen it or it's on my rental list, I think I drive Sox mad with my passion for scary movies! I'm trying to think of the other horror you've included, I have a few films in my head but I'll wait and see :grinthumb

Now back to the music! I really like the Open Hand track you posted (again a new one to me), they remind me of another group but I can't for the life of me think who (this is gonna bug me!), and maybe it's just me but I hear undertones of The Smashing Pumpkins in there, like the chugging reminded me immediately of Tarantula.

Sounds like Queens Of The Stone Age to me, very much in their style with a few other flavours in the mix too. I like it! :grinthumb

Tray, my love of horror dates back to silent flicks to now with the 70's era being my favorite. You'll have to see the others as well because some border on horror as well.

I'm glad both of you liked that track as I was obsessed with them back in 2003 and this is a return to form for them. I actually hear the influences you both stated. I never would've guessed them on my own but I hear it now. :cheers2

Coldplay-Us Against The World
Coldplay-Mylo-Xyloto.jpg

Oh morning come bursting, the clouds, Amen.
Lift off this blindfold, let me see again
And bring back the water, let your ships roll in.
In my heart she left a hole

The tightrope that I'm walking just sways and ties
The devil as he's talking with those angel's eyes
And I just want to be there when the lightning strikes
And the saints go marching in

And sing slow-ow-ow-ow it down

Through chaos as it swirls
It's us against the world

Like a river to a raindrop, I lost a friend
My drunken as a Daniel in a lion's den
And tonight I know it all has to begin again
So whatever you do, don't let go

And if we could float away
Fly up to the surface and just start again
And lift off before trouble
Just erodes us in the rain (x3)

Sing slow-ow-ow-ow it down
Oh Slow-ow-ow-ow it down

Through chaos as it swirls
It's just us against the world
Through chaos as it swirls
It's us against the world

This was the album that salvaged Coldplay for me. I was a big fan of "Parachutes" but as each album passed I lost more and more interest. They became a band with "songs" I liked but their albums never held me. I completely passed over X&Y even after having it in my collection. I heard so much hype for it and could never grasp what everyone liked about it when I listened to it. I never even bothered buying "Viva la Vida..." and never liked a single off of it. With the new album, thanks to a good friend, who became as good off a hype(wo)man as I've ever been with the Pumpkins :D I started hearing song after song that grabbed me for it's depth of sound, grandiose melodies and hint at an epic album. I read that this would be a tightly tied together concept album. I took a chance and bought the album and loved it. Between this album and having a resurgence of love for "The Scientist" due to hearing it again when my friend sang it at karaoke I went on a Coldplay binge. I finally listened and got into "X&Y" on my own terms and now I found the awesomeness of "Fix You" which I rebelled against prior. This album as a whole is my favorite since "Parachutes". The challenge is like with the Trail of Dead bands album is which one stands out in a tightly woven album. I picked this one becaus while it's far from grandiose and epic it has a great vibe to it. A nice beautiful tone from Chris singing a sea shanty with a accompanying vocal so subtle it's melts and resonates so beautifully with his. I love the clarity of the instruments. Great production that makes this type of song a lot grander in scope. You end up listening repeatedly for the little moments like :44 with the guitar strings. Just a great song full of great moments! :cheers2

This movie is already great just for combining to great loves of mine. Horror and Kevin Smith! It's even greater for working for the most part. Now it's not flawless but here's what works. Who better to send a message about fanaticism, religious in this flick, than Smith. Everyone knows Kevin Smith's gift is dialogue so with a perfectly cast Minister, Michael Parks, he delivers making a risky move by playing out a long Sermon which brings a realism to the viewer. The cult fanatics here are perfectly loony and unwavering from their self righteousness. The kids who admittedly could have been fleshed out with more time still come off as sympathetic with perfectly realistic teen dialogue prior to their situation and the complete helplessness and confusion of their situation after. The interesting part of the film comes with the handling of a hostage like situation similar to Waco and for me it's one I've never seen handled in film. Their are dumb characters here authority wise but honestly I enjoyed John Goodmans character here. The rest of the film is filled with suspense, twist and turns. A lot of your enjoyment will be whether you like how they are handled. I thought one in particular was pretty cool, one may have been easily predicted but it happened out of nowhere which was cool and another I could have done without the moral. The thing with this one is that it felt fresh because it was a fish out of water giving the genre a different touch. With that it was entertaining and never boring and I'd recommend a watch for sure. :cheers2

Florence and the Machine-No Light, No Light
Florence.jpg

You are the hole in my head
You are the space in my bed
You are the silence in between
What I thought and what I said
You are the nighttime fear
You are the morning when it's clear
When it's over, you're the start
You're my head and you're my heart

No light, no light
In your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day
You can't choose what stays and what fades away
And I'd do anything to make you stay
No light, no light
Tell me what you want me to say

To the crowd I was crying out and
In your place there were a thousand other faces
I was disappearing in plain sight
Heaven help me, I need to make it right

You want a revelation
You want to get "right"
But it's a conversation
I just can't have tonight
You want a revelation
Some kind of resolution
You want a revelation

No light, no light
In your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day
You can't choose what stays and what fades away
And I'd do anything to make you stay
No light, no light
Tell me what you want me to say

Would you leave me
If I told you what I'd done?
And would you leave me
If I told you what I'd become?
'Cause it's so easy
To say it to a crowd
But it's so hard, my love
To say it to you out loud

No light, no light
In your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day
You can't choose what stays and what fades away
And I'd do anything to make you stay
No light, no light
Tell me what you want me to say

You want a revelation
You want to get "right"
But it's a conversation
I just can't have tonight
You want a revelation
Some kind of resolution
You want a revelation

You want a revelation
You want to get "right"
But it's a conversation
I just can't have tonight
You want a revelation

Florence is one of the reasons I had to expand my list. The album is great and I knew that the first time I listened to it. I bought the first Florence album and only a handful of songs had the effect that this whole album had on me. I see this is an album single and honestly I like this far more than "Shake It Out". It was between this and Seven Devils" for me and this one won for being more dynamic and full of drama and energy. I love how it has the vocals chime in with Florence at the perfect moments and Florence's signature heavy drumbeat sound is at it's usual best here. This song clenches it's spot for 3:08-3:15. That holding of that note into the heavy drumbeat is an eargasm. This is a perfect anthem if I've ever heard one! :grinthumb

This was a great movie! Everything works! It's the most I've ever laughed at a Simon Pegg/Nick Frost film (Shaun of the Dead, etc.). They've always had great chemistry so I can't say I've never been a fan but I think the material here is simply the best they've had to work with. The film has a great pace where they don't throw out their best material all in one spot. It's witty and has lots of ton in cheek jokes, barbs and overall cute and adult humor lampooning the sci-fi alien genre. I don't care what anyone thinks about Seth Rogen. Having him voice the alien was perfect casting and I can't picture it working with anyone else. The side characters played by Kristen Wiig, Jane Lynch and David Koechner provide the usual hilarity. Also one side character is a cool cameo as well. This film works on a lot of levels. It's a lighthearted buddy comedy which becomes a buddy trio, it's a well pulled off sci-fi satire, it's a raunchy gross out comedy and it's a comedy chase movie. The CGI and effects are adequate. The entertainment is plentiful and it's a movie I don't think anyone would walk away without at least being content with what they saw. It exceeded my expectations and I'd like to see more in this vein! :)

Awesome my love! I remember first posting this song and recommending you give it a listen and was unsure as to whether or not you would enjoy it. I had no idea! You have been tight lipped on your appreciation for Mylo Xyloto.

It is indeed their first (and most likely only) concept album, produce by Brian Eno who they had previously worked with on Viva la Vida. I admit when I first learned he would be working on this album I thought "Oh, it'll be a repeat of Viva.", but it was not so. MX really does incorporate everything I loved about X&Y and VLV.

I do think when it comes to Coldplay they really hit their peak with their first two albums and established their signature sound and stylings with those, so the further they deviated from them the more and more fans became disappointed. I personally enjoyed X&Y and it will always be my favorite of theirs, but I do believe that with Mylo Xyloto they sort of reprised those same elements that made that album so special to me. The best tracks on the album are Charlie Brown, Us Against the World and Paradise, though I've also grown a soft spot for Every Teardrop is a Waterfall too.

:cheers2

I've yet to hear the latest Coldplay album, I have all their other albums, but I'm not a fan of Viva La Diva even though I've tried my best to like it (sorry Jen!), there's a couple of songs I think are ok but nothing jumps out at me too much. It's probably because of this I've been in no rush to give their latest offering a listen, although I do like Paradise :)

Paul is one of those films that I expeced not to like and was completely wrong! I should have known I'd like it with Simon Pegg being in it, especially teamed up with Nick Frost (loved those two in Hot Fuzz). I remember Sox wrinkling his nose up at it in the beginning when I put it on but he ended up enjoying it too - it had us both laughing a lot!

You check out Red State yet Tray? :) It borders on horror and wasn't the second horror flick I was referring to but it's definitely creepy side of humanity! :grinthumb
