[Big Ears]

'Karn Evil 9, 1st Impression' on the Brain Salad Surgery album by Emerson, Lake & Palmer) was in two parts on the original vinyl album: 1st Impression, Pt. 1 @ 8:37 is at the end of side one and 1st Impression, Pt. 2 @ 4:46 opens side two. On the CD they sound as was intended and blend into each other. I am not sure why they were split. Something to do with the timings I suppose. Anway, the total time for the whole track is 13:23. All three impressions of Karn Evil 9 are not strictly one track, but the total time is 29:41.

The title track of Phaedra by Tangerine Dream is 17:39.

Born to Go, a bonus track on Space Ritual by Hawkind 1996 remaster is 13:02

This track was terrific. Was a good lengthy endeavour.

 

[Powerage]

The studio version clocks in about 9 minutes and 53 seconds, but as the years went on, this monster just grew and grew until it reached it's peak in 1984 clocking in at I think 24 minutes. Unfortunately the video of the show I would post has been edited down so is less than half that.

This is a live version taken from the NEC in Birmingham in May 1982. The show itself is special because it was the first time a rock band had ever played to royalty. Prince Charles attended the gig.

Learning to live from Images and Words. Favourite song on what is a great second album.


In the Presence of Enemies from Systematic Chaos is brilliant. Pretty length song, goes well over 20 minutes if you don't go by the separate parts on the album.
