Delta Blues and Spirituals

SonHouse-DeltaBluesAndSpirituals.jpg

Recorded live for an enthusiastic audience at London's 100 Club on June 30 and July 14 of 1970 during House's final European tour, Delta Blues and Spirituals is a great last look at a true blues legend. Though Son House would live another 18 years after this recording, he would only perform for five more, and by most accounts he was only a shadow of his former self relatively shortly after this collection's release. Thus, Delta Blues and Spirituals remains one of the last vibrant documents of one of the most essential fathers of Delta blues at the top of his game.

Yup he's definitely one of the masters of the craft known as the Blues, just as much as Bukka White, Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson, and Sylvester Weaver.

Son House was amazing, Spike I'm very jealous! He was married 5 times apparently so thats a sure sign of the blues if you ask me!

I had a go colourising some of the old clips of Son House below, again not perfect but might give them a new light and hopefully spread the word;

The late great Son House recorded on the 11th October, 1967 in a TV Studio in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Son House recorded 9th October 1967 at WDR TV in Cologne, Germany as part of the American Folk Blues Festival tour of '67.

The mighty Son House live at Washington University, Seattle 18th March, 1968.

Complete footage, recorded 13th October. 1968 for Camera Three (CBS studio New York)
