Id have to say some of my favorite bass players are funksters....they played bass lines that actually thump in your chest
Yeah as much as I'm a 'rock guy' I do like listening to some 1970s funk & soul/funk bands from that era like The Isley Brother's, Heatwave & Kool & the Gang as well as several others.

I wouldn't say I know to much about bass playing but I believe Bootsy Collins actually credits Larry Graham for inventing the 'slap & pop' style of funk bass playing and as previously posted Bootsy claims that Larry is THE MAN when it comes to bass playing.

Talking of Bootsy Collins I noticed he's recently released a new album (2017).

Feels obligatory to mention Nile Rodgers here...................
Yeah Nile Rodgers plus don't forget his late musical partner Bernard Edwards both of Chic they turned out some great funk/rock/dance music with the likes of Chic, Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, Shelia B.Devotion and others during the late 1970s & 1980s.
