Discussing the idea of a Sex Pistols greatest hits record makes me laugh when the surviving band members take shots at Green Day all the time because at least Green Day managed to build a catalog of music that merited a greatest hits.

But as 80's rocker Don Dokken once said, the guys who run their mouth most often about other musicians are usually the people who aren't doing shit for music of their own.

Agreed, I love The Clash but The Pistols are the epitome of punk :)

Absolutely disagree with you on that one Riff. The Clash is a far better band all around, the Sex Pistols...take away the Shock and Awe of their only album and the music is eminently forgettable.

The Clash are a thinking man's punk band, before they grew beyond being just a punk rock band, the Sex Pistols were a one trick pony, and I couldn't stand them when they came onto the scene and now I like them even less.:D

Fair call that.
Being a one trick pony is just as well they did one album, and a teriffic punk one at that imo :)
I love The Clash, didnt like some of their stuff that went away from the punk theme.

I just never got the hype for the SP's, there were a host of better bands playing "punk rock" back then, but all because of slick management and one controversial song they were catapulted into iconic status.

Hell they could barely play their instruments, and at that point you will always lose me as a prospective fan. Important to the Punk movement beyond a doubt. Musically....I consider their one album a load of...you guessed it "Bollocks".:grinthumb

I agree they are a massive one hit wonder but they have had an impact on how a lot of bands back then formed and impacted the punk scene particularly.
The Clash has got a good set of albums, Dead Kennedys used to be good until they turned into complete ****** and sued Jello.
Least the Pistols did one album, didnt sell out.

The Pistols weren't even the first punk band, their manager was watching the bands in the New York punk music scene and took the idea back to London. He created the SP's and history was made.

I consider them manufactured product more than any musical leviathans and always will. I can't say anything about the Dead Kennedy's don't know that much about them. But the Clash never sold out, they simply Grew Up, and there is a difference. After watching a biography about them they are by far the most influential punk rock band ever, people from all over the world connected with them.

The fiasco at California Jam was embarrassing, they had started to become the same rock stars they were slamming when they were on the way up, that is when the band died in my opinion. Joe fired Mick and the band never recovered after that.

Okay back to Johnny Rotten and his boys, before someone chases me out of here with a Rope.;)
