Re: Saga

Seeing there is another Distinguished fan who knows who Saga is I'll post the next album. Released in 1980, Images At Twilight was a more polished record than the debut, the songs are a little stronger and the band more confident sounding. One cool tidbit about the band is they had a story that lasted over 20 years on their studio albums, called "Chapters"...there is a live album that has the complete set of songs in order, but that is a ways down the line yet. I really liked Saga's sound, they were more than just a pop/rock band to me, had some progressive elements, and a hard edge as well. I am glad they found success in Europe, that allowed them to make music well into the new millennium.

Here's Images.(Chapter One)

Re: Saga

Seeing one of our most distinguished members wants me to keep this thread going, I will oblige. 1980's release, "Silent Knight" was similar to the previous record, and it is the first Saga album I ever heard, my older brother bought a vinyl copy because of the cover...:heheh: Thankfully we all enjoyed what was inside as well, tight songs, great instrumental work by the band, these guys guys were really good and different from anyone we had heard before, plus being a Canadian band was a nice bonus. We also started wondering what the "Chapters" were all about, it was too early to discern a pattern but as it turned out it became a long running theme that I will get to later...if there is anybody still interested of course.

What's It Gonna Be(Extended Version)

Re: Saga

Silent knight is a fine album......LG :grinthumb I hadnt played it for donkeys years...and I tell you what....it was mighty good listening.
I heard a "live" SAGA concert on the radio and recall rock dj Tommy Vance playing them a few times...so i was reasonably impressed to buy the album
I can also hear the "prog rock" influence as you earlier mentioned. The music press over here in the UK labelled SAGA in the "pomp rock" section. A musical term i loathed [.....like hair band!!!!! lol ]
SAGA came over here in the 80s and were supported on tour by MAGNUM
Singer Michael Sadler looked like Wild Bill Hickoc with his moustache in them days.
Ive recently bought the SAGA "head or tails" album on vinyl..and was impressed . Their sound at times sitting comfortably next to a latter day RUSH..Please LG keep this thread going im looking forward on your comments about the other SAGA releases :cheers2

Re: Saga

Looks like it's just you and me kid...:heheh:

Yeah I liked Heads or Tales as well, another "Pearler". I don't have my vinyl anymore but the CD is good too.

Pomp rock...:hm:...don't think I like that name either.:nw: They are just a good talented band, they can play hard or soft, smokin' guitar, ethereal keyboards, good vocals, decent songwriting...what else do you need for a band to get a little respect?

Wow, I remember SAGA !

I saw them at The New London Submarine US Navy Base (Groton Ct)in ermmm 1988 {I think it was 88 lol }

They headlined the concert with

Wang Chung
The Hooters, as support :)

My boyfriend at that time was stationed there on a Nuke Submarine and they got alot of cool concerts for free..

I saw many 80's acts during this period :cheers2
I always liked them..cool music and top lightshow ..

Re: Saga

Hey there are three of us now in the SAGA fan club.

The irony about this band is how popular they were in Europe as compared to Canada, especially in Germany they pretty much moved and set up operations there.

Lol, I didn't KNOW they were Canadian Lg ? I remember that my Bf was really into prog music (Pink Floyd, Genesis, Alan Parsons ) And was totally wild about SAGA when they were out then...

One question >? What kinda drums is that dude playing ? I never saw a kit like this/ I was watching this video and was :wtf: wondering what the heck ?

Re: Saga

I'll have to defer to MP or LOU they know far more about that than I do Astrid.

Yeah they are from Toronto,,,well the suburbs anyway. And like most bands they do get some airplay at home and we don't produce that many world class bands so I always try to support my homies when possible. The fact I Love their music is a bonus.

Re: Saga

Thanks LOU, we have produced a few decent bands over the years...;)

You are right, World's Apart is the next album and it remains my favorite Saga recording and is the one I would recommend to anyone interested in checking them out. This album is the one that finally got them attention in the US, and put them in the upper echelon of Canadian rock bands in the 80's.

On the Loose.
