Rory was the ultimate live performer, i have never seen anyone with as much energy has him on stage...I saw Clapton once at the Royal Albert Hall, he was brilliant to listen to, but to watch he was a complete snooze fest, he just stood there...Rory was all over the stage, so much energy...Clapton will always be regarded as one of the very finest white boy blues players, but live he was NOTHING compared to Rory.

American guitarist Tony Spinner with his tribute track to Rory which is titled 'Checkered Shirt Wizard.'...very good track with a lot of Rory's old songs mentioned in the lyrics....How many of Rory's song titles can you dig out from these lyrics?

I saw Rory and his band live 3-times and all 3-times at the Town & Country club in Kentish Town in north London that was in 1988, 1990 & 1992 the last time was where he played a short one hour set after becoming unwell during the performance apparently after drinking a glass of brandy back stage before 'showtime' that mixed with his 'prescribed medication' from a doctor. I was standing right down the front to Rory's left and the first few numbers were fine then after performing Tattoo'd Lady Rory seemed to lose it a bit and some 'catcalls' were heard from the back of the venue after which Rory spoke into the stage mic saying something like "I hear some people have asked for there money back, well this ain't no Thompson Twins show!!." Anyway I recall Rory started a slow blues just him on electric guitar which was a bit rambling to be honest when Mark Feltham his harmonic player stepped forward from the shadows to give some accompanied 'shape' to Rory's guitar work but after that I think his brother Donal appeared and lead him off stage not before Rory came over to my area of the stage and we all shook his hand has he reached down below the stage area.

A sad ending to his last major London concert in late 1992.

With regards to the Gerry McAvoy album according to what I read in a book called GALLAGHER, MARRIOTT, DERRINGER & TROWER published about 25-years ago (circa 2000) Gerry says that he recorded 2-solo albums one of which was released and the other was shelved.

Firstly I like the 2-Taste studio albums along with the 2-live Taste albums and Taste x4 cd box set.

And as for favourite Rory albums that's a hard one although I do like the first album RORY GALLAGHER his first solo album from 1971 along with PHOTO FINISH from 1978 & TOP PRIORTY from 1979 and in the last 10-15 years FRESH EVIDENCE from 1990 as well. Also I do like the live STAGESTRUCK album from 1980 which I still play regularly.

As for individual album tracks that's again a hard one but I do like Country Mile, Moonchild, Do You Read Me, Edged In Blue from the Calling Card album in 1977 along with Walk On Hot Coals & Race The Breeze both from the Blueprint album in 1973 and Tattoo'd Lady, Living Like A Trucker & Who's That Coming from the Tattoo album in 1974 along with a couple of obscure tracks Persuasion & B-Girl both from the 1977 San Francisco aborted sessions and finally Bought And Sold, Souped Up Ford & Out On The Western Plain from the Against The Grain album in 1976.

But in reality I like all of Rory's individual song tracks and albums..

Rory in Zurich in 1980...Souped Up Ford...he was a great slide player...the energy from Rory and the band is just off the scale here..BRILLIANT...This is how i best remember him, not just a superb bluesman but a real kick ass rock n roller too...Souped Up Ford is another of my fave Rory songs, classic blues-rock at its very best..Boy! could he scratch those strings! SUPERB!
