It sounds like the Rolling Stones might spend a portion of the holiday season working on new material for their next studio album.
Various band members have indicated a willingness to finally deliver a full-length follow-up to 2005’s A Bigger Bang, but given that the Stones have spent the last few years completing various legs of an ongoing world tour — and just announced a new spate of Latin American dates for 2016 — it seemed likely that a new record was still fairly far off.
According to guitarist Ron Wood, however, the group has made tentative plans to start laying “some groundwork” for the next LP before the year is out. “We’ll maybe go in the studio in December and cut a few tracks and see what happens,” he told ABC News Radio. “We’ll take it from there, see how it all goes. One thing at a time.”
First, though, there’s the matter of the Latin American tour, which serves as the Stones’ return to the road after 2015’s top-grossing ZIP Code Tour. Musing that “it’s always good after a little sabbatical to get back with the boys and exchange stories and start the engines running again,” Wood even indicated that there might yet be further dates on the band’s horizon — even a trip to Cuba.
“Cuba could be great if we could get there,” Wood hinted. “That’s not a done deal yet, but it’s in the offing as we speak.”
