Basically, Roger believes the movie's look borrowed heavily from his body of artwork (ie: floating islands, stone arches, etc.)

Story

Along with a cash settlement and a public statement admitting he was the creator of imagery used in the film, Dean wants Fox to “cease and desist from any further reproduction, distribution, transmission or other use.”

If judgement is found in his favour, it means the original version of Avatar would have to be scrapped, and any sequels will look massively different from the production seen on release.

With the way lawsuits go sometimes, he might just have a chance of winning this thing.

Kinda sad, really. I was hoping for a sequel...........but instead the original movie may become a collectors item.

I wish I could see what images Dean is claiming are duplicated in the movie. Just because something is "similar" doesn't mean it is an infringement.

If you google Roger Dean paintings "floating Island"...........those are definitely similar but not close enough to be considered copies of the islands in Pandora.

It doesn't surprise me that Dean's Yes album covers could have been Cameron's inspiration......but that is not infringement, IMO.

Oh please let this happen. Avaturd needs to be eviscerated.

Of course I know (because of the massive amount of money to be made off this steaming pile of ca ca) it never will be scrapped but any little thing that punishes these cheese vendors is a major plus as far as I'm concerned.

I do however agree that it isn't really infringement of any kind and would even have to vote that way if I were called on to do so.
