Born on Feb. 20th, 1967 in Aberdeen, WA, Kurt Cobain was guitarist, singer, and songwriter with Nirvana, which he co-founded. Tragically, succumbing to personal struggles, Kurt took his own life on 04/05/94 at the age of 27. From the 1991 album, Nevermind… 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'
Rest in peace Kurt Cobain.

Kurt Cobain was a pure musical genius. It is just too sad that his personal/drug issues got in the way and ultimately ended his life. His musical influences will be heard many years into the future in Rock Music.

I have a great respect for Nirvana and Kurt Cobain, he/they did so much with so little. When Rock had become more about make up, spandex, hair spray and light shows than music, these guys came along and stripped rock back down to it's bare essentials and kicked ass the way rock used to.

I will never be a big Nirvana fan,,,I've tried but it's painful to listen to one of their albums for me. I do respect their place in music and understand why younger people have them on a pedestal but when I want 90's rock I listen to someone else generally.

Ohh it was Cobain's birthday yesterday?!

I remember when I saw the video for Smells Like Teen Spirit on MTV for the first time. I was just getting into rock music with Guns n' Roses' hits from the Illusion albums. I was mostly into the pop top 40 at the time. The Nirvana video blew me away! Well, initially it was more like... "What's wrong with these people?? Why are all these people, on what looks like an abandoned basketball court, acting all possessed?? Why is this lead singer looking so insane and screaming his guts out?..." :oyea:

Man, is it already almost 20 years? I remember where I was on the day hearing that he'd died, and being shocked, though mainly more by the fact he'd killed himself with a shotgun because I was never a big fan, though I agree Nirvana kicked down a lot of doors and were/are fairly widely adored.

Kurt was a troubled man, but through his struggle he's been able to help a lot of us in the same space. Wasn't a pleasant time, but knowing that he had gone through the same things was one of the few things that kept me going when I was young.

Whatever his music is, or was, or means, or doesn't mean, I'm glad that Kurt Cobain was born and I hope that some part of him understood that positive influence he was able to have, even if it didn't change his fate.
