Primal Fear Official Website

Here's a band I really enjoy, a throwback to the days of Priest and Maiden, Primal Fear. Founded by Ralph Scheepers who was a member in Kai Hansen's band Gamma Ray for a few years. After trying out for the vacant vocalist spot in Judas Priest years ago but not getting chosen, him and his guitarist played around with the old metal songs and enjoyed the results so much they formed Primal Fear. I have all of their albums, so I'll go in chronological order.

Their self titled debut album was released in 1998, drew a lot of attention, the sound reminded everyone of the earlier days of just good old heavy metal, which is how I would describe their sound.

Line Up:

Ralph Scheepers - Vocals
Tom Naumann - Guitars & Keyboards
Klaus Sperling - Drums & Percussion
Matt Sinner - Bass Guitar, Keyboards & Vocals

Albums:

Primal Fear (1998)
Jaws of Death (1999)
Nuclear Fire (2001)
Black Sun (2002)
Devil's Ground (2004)
Seven Seals (2005)
New Religion (2007)
16.6 (Before the Devil Knows You're Dead) (2009)
Unbreakable (2012)
Delivering the Black (2014)
Rulebreaker (2016)
Apocalypse (2018)

Here's a great song, Chainbreaker.

Re: Primal Fear

The follow up album kept the theme of the first, and cemented Primal Fear's place as a 90's metal band to be reckoned with. They are not trying to invent anything new here, just pure old school metal and they succeeded big time with 1999's release "Jaws of Death".

When the Night Comes.

Re: Primal Fear

Following Jaws of Death, came Nuclear Fire released in 2001. Another solid album, nothing surprising or different from the first two, which is fine with me. I can't help but time travel a little when I play these CD's, they would have fit in perfectly with the old NWOBHM, except it would have been the NWOGHM instead seeing they are from Germany.

Angel in Black.

Re: Primal Fear

Opposite for me I like power metal bands more than most of the other varieties, it sounds the closest to the older metal I grew up with, plus I like clean vocals I can understand too.

Good luck with your exams.
