Let me go first. I just don't get Mariah Carey. Her choice of material has been execrable from the start (pop/dance/hiphop) and her initial good looks didn't last long at all. She's just a dough ball now.

I disagree.

Mariah herself, I can't stand because she seems very much in love with herself in an annoying way, but she has quite a few good songs.

I also don't see how people can think her looks are bad at all. She gained a bit of weight, so what? She lost most of it and it's not like she weighed 300 pounds. On top of that, what does her weight have to do with her music? Who cares what she looks like?

There are few things worse than listening to the WHINING of Celine Dion....mind you, not that her voice is bad...on the contrary, it's who writes those WIMPY songs for her.....Celine, change your songwriter (and if it's you who writes them, change your style girl)......

Combine her weight gain with this business of her being "very much in love with herself in an annoying way" and her being very popular with certain market segments when I've yet to be impressed with anything she's recorded. That's how she gained my nomination.

Can someone please tell me which planet Celine lives on? I mean ya see her on these tv spots and all and from the way she behaves you would come away with the thought that this woman thinks the sun or A sun revolves around her. Does she even have a grip on reality ? Its like she think she queen of her own fantasy land. And worst yet she's Breeding more like her...

IMO. Not saying you have to like her, which wasn't the point of my original comment at all. Just saying I disagreed with that statement because I personally think she has good songs. I wasn't trying to say OMG YOU MUST LIKE HER!!! I'm not even a huge Mariah fan myself. I just think it's nuts to say she is worse than Celine.

The main thing that counts is her music. Whether you actually enjoy her music or not, you can't deny that she has a voice, one which no one else can touch. You don't have to enjoy her music to know that her voice is amazing and she has quite a talent.

I'm not saying you have to like her songs, that's up to you, but using her weight against her is pretty silly, imo. I really don't care who gains how much weight, I am just interested in their music. A lot of people go up and down in weight. Being a musician can be a very lonely life. I wouldn't be surprised at the amount of stars who find comfort in food, especially when you can't go outside and enjoy life like a normal person. You're stuck in a fishbowl. I understand that this is the life that comes with this career but if someone wants to be a singer or actor, they shouldn't avoid it just because of this life.

She's one of those artists who sound just as great live as on her CDs. She's not like Gwen Stefani, who, if you haven't heard live yet, I urge you not to even bother, lol. I seriously wonder how Gwen is considered a singer.
