Ummagumma was right at the(hem-hem)state of mind I was in at the time. The Quadraphonic effects put a whole new spin on the track(Careful with that axe Eugene)--Some of my favorite Floyd tunes(In no particular order)

Are you an architect?

I always liked Umma Gumma, especially Astronomy Domine.

No i'm not an architect. I was just struggling to come up with a name for the forum and it just popped into my head so there it is. No rhyme or reason whatsoever!

I'm not a big fan of Ummagumma though, it's in the bottom tier on my PF album list. It's not terrible but just not at the level of their best work.

I know LG you have a soft spot for their classic period and that's great. Everybody has an appreciation for different sounds. I love all Floyd equally except for the Final Cut. It's very depressing. I guess that's why I've never been a hug fan of Roger's solo work either. I guess I'm a Gilmour girl at heart. Besides he's so damn hot!!!!

Ummagumma is among my favorites. I think some of the conceptual pieces are a little dull but live Astronomy Domine, Grantchester Meadows and the Narrow way are among my favorite Floyd recordings.

And you know why you chose architect. That was what they were in school for when they formed the band and in fact were called The Architectural Abdabs at one time.

This is true. I guess even my subconscious has Pink Floyd on the brain all the time.

I almost posted a picture of David as he is now...but the one you picked is much more flattering.

I have no opinion on his "hotness" but he is one of my favorite guitarists easily.

I agree about Waters' solo work, a little goes a long way for me it's so damned depressing makes you wonder if he ever has a "light moment" when he's composing songs.

I'm more of an Obscured by Clouds fan, but yes, Meddle is a very good album. One of These Days is a favorite Floyd song of mine, and Fearless is great as well.



Yeah, the movie isn't for everyone. I was hooked immediately, though, and it's probably one of my favorite movies of all time.



Yeah, I haven't really gotten into their earlier stuff as of yet. See Emily Play is probably my favorite pre-1971 song of theirs. I need to listen to Atom Heart Mother, Ummagumma, and The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and Saucerful of Secrets a bit more thoroughly - or, in other words, their early works.

As for my favorites, I'll rank what I've listened to extensively as such:

Dark Side of the Moon
Animals
The Wall
Wish You Were Here
Obscured by Clouds
Meddle

The Wall is hard to rank. The good on that album is AMAZING (Hey You, Goodbye Blue Sky, Young Lust, Mother, Comfortably Numb, Another Brick in the Wall), but the rest is meh without the movie playing over it, IMO. With Dark Side of the Moon, EVERY song on it is a classic. It is a perfect album, and one of the greatest ever released.

i think the wall works better as a whole album though, its the best album of all time in my opinion. when im listening to random songs id rather songs from dark side, but if i wanna listen to a whole album id go with the wall.

oh and im gonna watch the movie on acid hopefully sometime next week, pretty excited ive never watched the whole thing because everytime ive started it ive felt like i wasnt high enough to fully experience it lol. 4 doses should fix that.

I agree with The Wall being the better concept piece. I too would rather listen to The Wall all the way through than DSOTM.

That movie is frightening even without drugs. Good luck with that one...

I'm sorry if this has been mentioned before, but going through 51 pages is a little daunting.

Anyone ever notice that some of the acoustic guitar riff in Metallica's "Fade to Black" is nearly identical to Pink Floyd's "Goodbye Blue Sky"? I can't say for certain if James is paying homage to David or if he ripped it off wholesale. The only real difference is semantics, but if a guitarist is going to copy someone, not many better choices than David Gilmour.

I am not a guitarist, so I don't know about chord progressions and all that jazz, so if I'm off base and the chords are completely different, then by all means clue me in.
