    Painkiller - great album.

    Metallica is ok but not brilliant in my ears.

    Never heard the other two and probably never will....

    I agree it's not their best album but still pretty fine and if I remember correctly ( big 'if' ) was Robs debut after returning to the fold. Just out of curiosity which do you think was their best...? I'd go for Sad Wings and I'd love to hear it re-done in the modern day with modern production. That would really be something....

    After years of mulling this one over, I finally decided. Metallica gets my vote. The Black Album is spit-shiny awesome. Over-produced? Perhaps. Sell-outs? not at all. The production level, the song writing, the playing, etc. It's all 100% top notch. As much as I love Painkiller, I can't even pretend that I've spun it anywhere near as much as I have played the Black Album. Hate voting against JP, but in this case, I kind of have to.
