Re: New York Dolls

One of my favorites. The band sort of started as an American answer to the Stones. Love their albums, a great blend of band originals and well chosen remakes.

I saw a solo album by Johnny Thunders the other day,,,but damn if I can remember the name now...:bonk:

How about an informal "Best" NY Dolls album recommendation from the fans here?

Thanks! I have both of those...the second one has alot more material and the first one is very reasonable in the price department and contains 11 GREAT tracks including my favorite "TRASH" and this gem.

The New York Dolls

These guys inspired me to pick up a guitar. In my opinion this was the greatest rock and roll band of all time in terms of pure rock spirit. Johnny Thunders and Syl Sylvain were the best 1-2 guitar punch I ever heard.

Re: New York Dolls

^^^Great tune!!!... & for the record...

New Yorks Dolls make a return with a new album "Dancing Backward In High Heels" on march 15, 2011 on 429 Records !!!

NEW YORK DOLLS:
"Dancing Backwards In High Heels"

1. Fool For You Baby
2. Streetcake
3. I’m So Fabulous
4. Talk to Me Baby
5. Kids Like You
6. Round and Round She Goes
7. You Don’t Have to Cry
8. I Sold My Heart to The Junkman
9. Baby Tell Me What I’m On
10. Funky But Chic
11. End of the Summer

I notice they're remaking "Funky but Chic" which was from late in their career just before their split up in '75 (I'm not sure if it was even played by the original lineup but it was performed regularly right after the split when David & Sylvain still toured as the Dolls). It did end up on Johansen's solo debut in '78 & always remained part of his solo career live shows.

From what I've heard from the new album it sounds nothing like the Dolls ever did (almost a 60's soul feel to the songs which was always a bit in their roots but these songs really sound in the 60's & not the driving hard Rock from their first 2 albums) I really like what I heard but if your expecting Kick Ass hard Rock it won't be on it
