^^Was Lulu a 2013 album Riff...

I agree about Tate's solo album he rushed it and has been taking nothing but criticism for releasing such a pile of rubbish.

I cannot get into the new Steve Hillage album, Phoenix Rising, recorded under the System 7 name and in collaboration with Rovo. I read that it was a return to his seventies style, but it still has the dreaded dance-y feel and Rovo's two drummers are noisy and messy. Worst of all there are no strong bass riffs. It seems that Ozric Tentacles are more Steve Hillage than Steve Hillage these days.

I think the artwork is great and I'll listen for a bit longer. He deserves a chance, but I have a feeling this is not for me.
System 7 is jot the same as the Steve hillage band. I actually am digging this system 7 and rovo release but don't expect most people to like it. It's a mix of techno, Steve hillage riffs and a decent band. It will make my top 50 of 2013

I don't think Steve Hillage ever had a settled band, being backed by Gong, Utopia and various others. On Phoenix Rising, I understand Rovo to be the band, with Hillage on guitar and Miquette Giraudy on associated bleeps and burbles.

Dissapointments? For me, I expected a lot more of the Sabbath reunion album '13' - but it still doesn't work for me at all, a couple of the shorter punchier tracks I really like a lot (Loner, Age of Reason) but the rest of it bores me stiff, why have they suddenly decided that almost every new song they write has to be at least 7, but in other cases 8 or even I think 9 minutes long?....Yes and Genesis and even Led Zep could get away with that sort of thing, but not Black Sabbath. And also the new John Fogerty Wrote a Song for Everyone album which I thought was poor, basically just JF dueting with all his friends on a lot of old songs ( Foo Fighters, Kid Rock, Bob Seger) - I still rate JF as one of the all time greats, but this to me was a stupid idea and I wish I never bought it.

Been to some truly great memorable gigs this year, but it's been a bad year for new albums I've liked.

I guess I am one of few, but I don't think the Boston album is that bad. It has some enjoyable moments, but I guess it's fair to call it somewhat a disappointment, if you had any kind of expectations for it, which I didn't.

My most disappointing and worst albums of 2013.
Temper Temper by Bullet for My Valentine because it packed absolute repetition in the riff department, lyrics were shit, tried to rehash an old song and bastardised it immensely and generally an incredibly horrible album. Do not buy it if you expect anything diverse because this album is not. I liked the previous albums but this one sucks.

Frequency Unknown by Fakesryche. Was the most creative and amusing name I heard for the wannabe Queensryche band and their album was just as garbage as Dedicated to Chaos if not actually worse. Music lacked any real creativity and diversity and it was just a very mediocre if not sleep inducing listen. Not to mention a shitty album name.

Soulfly and Sepultura's new albums because while I enjoyed a bit of the guitar work on each they were both very long and boring to listen to. Not a lot of interesting vocals on the Sepultura release in fact to me the vocals were badly mixed. Soulfly just lacked anything new in the general sound. Both average albums.

Satyricon album feels like incredibly watered down black metal which defeats the purpose of being black metal. I like the album but its still disappointing to the expectation level of past work.

New Paramore. I enjoyed this album the first listen but just like In This Moment of last year this one has a lot of filler on it that was just incredibly lacklustre.

The new Boston I can kinda see why some old school fans were not big on it but as a casual listener of it myself I quite enjoy this release.
