Re: Midnight Oil

Forgot about my boys down under...:bonk:

After getting some notoriety at home the next album finally got the band worldwide attention. Of course I am talking about what most fans consider their finest album 1988's "Diesel & Dust". A conscious departure from their previous efforts, they took a little of the hard edge off and the result was a spectacular album. Every song on this beauty is good, you are still getting the "Political" and "Social" commentary but wrapped in an eminently enjoyable package. Production values on the CD are excellent, one of prime examples I would use to show anyone that digital is not always cold and clinical sounding. So if you are ever going to check out Midnight Oil then this is the album to get, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Crank this one up...:grinthumb

Re: Midnight Oil

i beleive they gave it up in 2005 or 2006 stand to be corrected.
peter garret ( lead singer) has been in polictics now for many years now.
even when he singing in band.
i really cant see him coming back to music ever again.
they had 3 concerts in 2009 that i think would be there last ever.
2 shows were at the royal theatre in canberra, (as warm up gigs)
then final gig at sound relief in melbourne for charity.

Re: Midnight Oil

^^Thanks for the info Karaoke. From what little I have heard about Peter Garret's foray into politics he was doing better as a frontman in his old band.(I do respect someone who stands up for what they believe in and try to make a difference but politics the way the machinery is set up can ruin anyone from what I have seen.)

Re: Midnight Oil

I don't care much for MO's activism....exquisitely musically speaking, there are FAR BETTER OZ bands out there......Hoodoo Gurus, Skyhooks, The Spinerettes, Illicit Eve, Dollsquad, Bitchslap, The Waifs, etc. etc.:):)

Re: Midnight Oil

^^Considering how few bands ever really write meaningful songs, I am in the opposite camp, I love ACDC for example but when I listen to Midnight Oil I am getting caught up on what's going on in Australia and other important issues. I see nothing wrong with incorporating art and activism especially when done with the quality and passion that MO brings to the table.

They are my favorite Aussie band.

Re: Midnight Oil

I like Midnight Oil. I have about 10 songs. I listened to them a day or two ago.
